RE: whats the longest shot you have ever taken?
Rifle hunting, I mainly use a 22-250 which is a small caliber but has plently of knock down power if you take neck shots. I take 100% neck shots if I' m shooting the 22-250. My farthest shot was 220 yrds, in the neck. My last two were 185 yrds and 200 yrds respectivly, both in the neck. Knock on wood, I' ve killed about 12-15 deer with that gun (all neck shots) and I' ve never had a deer take a step. I actually videoed myself killing my last buck and the vid is awesome because he slams to the ground like a ton of bricks at 200 yrds.
I killed my first deer with a bow last year at about 18-20 yrds but I personally limit myself to about 25 yrds, just because that' s all I feel comfortable with right now.

I shot my last elk at 53 yds with the bow. Hit him in the liver and he traveled about 250 yds. I shot a javelina at 52 yds 2 years ago. That shot went through both shoulders and he never took a step, he rolled and died a short time later.
On the range I spend as much time shooting at 60yds as I do at 20, with broadheads. I never take the longer shots unless I have been able to put the rangefinder on the animal, the wind is not a factor, and the animal is broadside and standing still.

I think I have only taken 3 shots over 30 yards in 17 seasons with a bow.
The first buck I ever shot was at 33 yards double lung from the ground, and my West Virginia buck last season was 35 yards double lung.
The other 30+ yard shot was back in the day when I was shooting about a whopping 200fps and heavy aluminum arrows. I shot at a fully alert doe who I think made it into the next area code before the arrow got there!
She had a better chance of dying of old age than from that arrow.

Killed a Bobcot at 47 yards with my bow. I used to hunt out West a lot and was very deadly out to 50-55 yards. Haven' t needed to shoot any whitetails over 30 yards, but would shoot up to 35.
I shot a Bull Elk at a little over 800 yards eight years ago with a .270 and finished him off at 687 yards. That was the last time I rifle hunted. As a matter of fact, I came home from Idaho and sold my rifle. It just didn' t feel like hunting to me. Been bow hunting now for 23 years.
