I'm a firm beleiver in Murphy's Law when it comes to deer hunting. I do my best to set myself up with as few things possible that can go wrong. I keep my bow simple, not a bunch of fancy gadgets, fancy gadgets can fail. I shoot fingers, they don't fail, get left at the truck, or dropped on the way to the stand. I use fixed blade broadheads, if they fail the only reason for it is poor shot placement. I know that mechanicals are deadly, and prob will kill a deer quicker and more humanely than a fixed with proper shot placement and when working correctly, but again, one more thing that can go wrong!

Well, any head can fail. I guess I did not say that right. I have been at this game for 30+ years and have seen every gimick come and go. With that said, the tried and true stay. Fixed heads have been around since day one. I get better penetration with obsidian heads than I do with metal heads. I just dont like knapping them.

One thing i do know about bow hunting deer it that nothing is for certain including perfect shots. I have been bow hunting for 28 years and every one of those years ive shot at least two deer with my bow i have taken over 100 deer with my bow and can count on one hand how many i have not retreived, i have made some soso hits i have shot deer in the shoulder blades and have hit both shoulders with a complete pass thru. I feel that Rage is a bandaid for poor bow setup and those that dont want to practice with there bows if a broad head can not consistently work if you hit bone or make a bad shot or hit a twig then you should not use it. I have a package of rage broad heads and the thing that is best about them is there marketing hype and nothing else.

sounds to me like you hit shoulder... if you're actually shooting 65lbs at 29inches and didnt hit shoulder you would have had much more penetration even if the shot was 60 yards...

are you saying just rage is a bandaid for poor shooters that don't practice? people use mechanical heads because most don't want to BH tune there bow. i'm sure everyone out there that uses mechanicals practices just as much as those who use fixed blades.

Now...wouldn't you agree that those two statements contradict one another?

I shot Bear Razorheads for the first 20+ years that I bowhunted.
Then I shot SpitFires.
Now Muzzy's.

What I learned.....If you hit 'em behind the shoulder, a field point will do the job.

Pope...don't sweat all the negative stuff. You have to be confident in your equipment. If you're not...then find something else.

That broadhead was a complete passthrough, double lung.
Like I said the blood trail was gone after 50 yards.

Every muzzy I've had has spun true eventually, different blade/tip config always fixes it.

You say in one thread every broadhead should work out of the box and in another you say it ok to have to change them to get them to fly ok.
