Default Broadhead Sharpness

I just switched to the Montec' s this year and I just love them. But I was wondering what is the best way to tell if I have them sharp enough for hunting. My wife always hollers at me when I shave my arm. Any input would be helpful.

Buy a long poodle and shave it, you can tell everyone it' s a mexican short hair! I shave my arms for testing. Mrs 5 shot yells at me as well, but I am used to it.

Shave your leg hair???

Maybe try the old rubber band trick...put rubber band in between thumb and forefinger and stretch(only a lttle bit) then run broadhead along the band. It should cut it in half if not sharpen some more....

Thats what I do. It simulates the relative firmness of an artery and flesh. If it slices it without effort then its probally good to go.

Don' t be messin with Rack' s poodles. []

G5 used to have a link explaining 3 different ways to tell if your heads are sharp. They were hair shaving, rubberbands stretched between 2 nails, and scrapeing a plastic rod of some sort. I see they are re-doing the website now and I can' t find the old link.

How bout you shave the wife![]

Thanks for all the replies especially the one from nub! Now another question for you guys. What stone do you think I should use? I was looking at the one made for the G5' s but was wondering about others.

I was just in the local pro shop discussing the sharpener from G5. The owner basicaly talked me out of buying one. I was telling him I just put over a thousand strokes on a Montec with my 3 sided stone sharpener. I still couldn' t shave hair and asked if their diamond worked any better. He said he basicaly had the same results. So back on the display it went.

I did open up a fresh pack of 125s and do the ole arm shave. They were very sharp and took the hair off with ease. I' ll be buying 6 new ones for my hunt next month.[:-] I' ve got a big chunk of foam that don' t seem to take the edge off a head too bad with just a few test shots. I shot some other new heads into it today and they still shaved hair after a half dozen times thru. So I' ll tune with the 3 montecs I have, then set up and check 6 new ones. Even I should be able to touch them back up after just a couple shots.
