Getting New Strings and Cables on a Dual Cam bow??
#1
I would like to get some advice on what kind of string and cable I should request from the shop. I am pretty clueless to what is the best out there in these two catagories. Currently, I am using the OEM string and cable that came on my 2001 Browning Adreniline.
My local shop is very good at setting me up with the right gear for the task at had, but thought I would inquire with all of you on your opinion.
I am worried about changing out the strings and cables that the timing could get messed up or that the stretch will throw my shooting off for the pre-season practice sessions. The bow currently shoots great but the shop I go to said it could use better string and that the cable is looking worn.
Thanks for your replys!!

If you want a string and cable that does not stretch and has perfect peep alignment, and has no more timing issues, buy a Winners Choice string and cables. They are a little more expensive, but well worth the cost.

Just called the local shop to ask if they offer the Winners Choice string and they do not. They said they make their own string and cables out of 8125 grade material. He says that after 100 shots it will finish stretching and only stretch at most 1/8th of and inch. HE also claims it is the same a zebra string with no twist in it which allows for correct peep alignment.
So is he blowing smoke up my arse or does this sound right???

Regardless of what type of new cable and string you have installed, retuning, retiming, and shooting in, goes with the turf. You do not install new gear, regardless of the type and quality, and assume you can pick up where you left off.
You only have two choices. 1) Install new cables and string and retune the bow, or 2) leave the old stuff on and face the possibility of a catastrophic failure.

Zingnut,
Periodically, you have to get a new string and cables. Be prepared to re-tune each time. A custom string like your shop is offering is probably a very well made string and should perform nicely.
Your old string is more likely to creep if it' s a stock string, then a new properly made custom one. I' d go for the new one. Maybe the shop will re-install everything on the string and help tune for a good price, since you' re getting the string through them.

Straightarrow, Yeah they are a good group I just know the basics and when they start talking the indepth details I usually get lost but try to keep up. I think I was going to have them set it up with their custome string. They have always helped me when I have had issue with my grip causing torque to paper tuning issues I had when I first got started.
They are a pretty good crew I think I have been taken so many other times in other hobbies that it causes me to be leary of the salesman.
Thanks for the advice.

c903 good point, and one that should not be forgotten.
Here is my advice, go with the custom string from your dealer, it will be much better then any string in a box because it will be served exactly to fit your bow, however, know and ask questions to your dealer about the pros and cons of each string material, you may want a material that meets your needs better. There is no one material that is perfect. Also ask him about the number of strands that he is going to use in making the string and what are the benefits with going with a few extra strands. Here is a site that will provide you with a little information on the types of string material out there and how they perform.

Zingnut I feel that 8125 is one of the best materials out there for string makeing . Zebra strings are junk , and you should have twists in your string so that the peep alligns correctly for each shot , that is unless you want a rubberband attached to your peep sight and pointing right at your eye every time you draw your bow . Winners Choice strings are expensive but are of excellent quality and they put in one twist per inch of string length . Hopefully your pro shop will do something simmular .
