RE: Carrying bow on hunt

I like to carry my bow by the string or grip when I' m walking. However I walk alot of hilly country and some of the slopes can be pretty steep so by carrying my bow by the handgrip it gives me more control of the bow incase I slip or fall, that way my precious bow dosn' t get bruised or my sites get knocked out of whack ;)

Also this way lets me get ready for the shot quickly if need be.

Catchya round the ridges.

RE: Carrying bow on hunt

Every elk season I tote my bow for miles. About 80% of the time I use a bow holster hung from my day pack on my left side. Also the riser on my right shoulder with my lower cam in my right hand, sort of like you would carry a rifle. Carry it by the string in my right hand. And about any other way I can. After about the first 20 days you get tired of taking your bow for a walk. During the season I will cover about 150 miles, 149 uphill. LOL

I' ve used a bow sling that I bought from Cabela' s
or BPS for years. They still sell them, however
I' m not sure of the name. They cost around $12.
A few years back my partner and I bought them
to use out west, allowing us to glass without
having to lay our bow down everytime. Now
I even use it here in the midwest.

RE: Carrying bow on hunt

I have a key ring holfer wrapped in felt and when needed put the string in it. But this is rare. I prefer changing my carry from hand to hand and string to riser.

My little Mathews FX is not a heavy bow and it causes very few problems and I am still hunting before the sun breaks out and after it has gone down, making for very long days.
