Carrying bow on hunt
How do you carry your bow if you go hunting. That is if you do a lot of walking.I carry' d in hand relaxing arm haning vertical but find the bow' s weight is not central (caused by quiver) thus after some time my arm becomes tired of keeping bow straigt vertical.
Is there some thing to support (hang) bow from body or else??? |
RE: Carrying bow on hunt
I use a Bow Holster that alot of 3d' ers use. It hangs from my hip and keeps both hands free while walking and glassing or calling

RE: Carrying bow on hunt
I either carry my bow from the grip with my wrist in the jump strap incase i need to get a shot off, or if its a long ways i just grab the riser and rest it on my shoulder. I think im going to get a sling this year though, its cumbersom trying to get the blind and backpack and bow in, plus my bow is HEAVY!!!!!

RE: Carrying bow on hunt
Carrying it by the string will be easier than carrying it by the riser . If it' s a real long walk , I' d check into some type of sling .

RE: Carrying bow on hunt
i Usually just carry my bow by the strings. Just grab all the strings and start walking. But i guess if i ever need to get a quick shot off ill be sry cause ya cant hardly put an arrow on the string when you carry this way. I was thinking about getting a sling but didnt think id like it.

RE: Carrying bow on hunt
I carry mine by the string also, and just switch hands if one gets tired. But if I ever make it out west, for long hikes across the country side. I might consider one of the back paks that you can strap your bow into on your back for hiking to destinations or glassing spots to hunt. But I' ve never been outwest, so that might not be such a good idea either!

RE: Carrying bow on hunt
i carry mine by the strings too...but like aaron said its hard to take a quick shot...or just hold the grip so the strings are inbetween ur arm and body. good luck, shoot straight, and keep the wind in your face!!!;) |
RE: Carrying bow on hunt
I carry mine by the grip and usually upside down(string facing down). I find that this puts less fatigue on my hand. I use to carry mine by the string, but it seems to bother the creases of my bare fingers quickly, if i am wearing gloves no problem. If I am stalking, walking a lot, setting up a stand, carrying extra gear, etc I use a sling. This is the ulitimate if you have a long walk or are glassing for spot n' stalk.
I have never worried much about a quick shot opp with the bow, while I have stubbled upon deer while walking in, I just don' t see it as a possibilty with a bow that is unnocked, etc. If still hunting or expect a deer to be near in an area, I carry it nocked and ready. |
RE: Carrying bow on hunt
Does anyone carry a bow while on horseback? If so what type of sling do you use and/or recommend?
|
RE: Carrying bow on hunt
I carry my bow by the string, because when I am walking to my stand it is dark and I don' t have to worry about being able to shoot quickly.

RE: Carrying bow on hunt
I like to carry my bow by the string or grip when I' m walking. However I walk alot of hilly country and some of the slopes can be pretty steep so by carrying my bow by the handgrip it gives me more control of the bow incase I slip or fall, that way my precious bow dosn' t get bruised or my sites get knocked out of whack ;)
Also this way lets me get ready for the shot quickly if need be. Catchya round the ridges. Stalkin' Steve |
RE: Carrying bow on hunt
Every elk season I tote my bow for miles. About 80% of the time I use a bow holster hung from my day pack on my left side. Also the riser on my right shoulder with my lower cam in my right hand, sort of like you would carry a rifle. Carry it by the string in my right hand. And about any other way I can. After about the first 20 days you get tired of taking your bow for a walk. During the season I will cover about 150 miles, 149 uphill. LOL

RE: Carrying bow on hunt
I' ve used a bow sling that I bought from Cabela' s
or BPS for years. They still sell them, however I' m not sure of the name. They cost around $12. A few years back my partner and I bought them to use out west, allowing us to glass without having to lay our bow down everytime. Now I even use it here in the midwest. |
RE: Carrying bow on hunt
I have a key ring holfer wrapped in felt and when needed put the string in it. But this is rare. I prefer changing my carry from hand to hand and string to riser.
My little Mathews FX is not a heavy bow and it causes very few problems and I am still hunting before the sun breaks out and after it has gone down, making for very long days. |
