My old hoyt super slam is not balanced at all. The bow will fall back when held loosely without drawing it back. I added a stabilizer b/c the guy at bass pro recommended one. I had to get one with 10oz of wt to balance the bow, which it did. However, other than adding a bunch of weight, I really don' t notice any difference in my shooting or the vibration. Maybe the difference is more subtle than I am expecting but I really don' t notice any changes.

What is your experience with them?

Tealboy, that ol' SuperSlam is a great bow. That riser design is my all time favorite.

Most of what they call stabilizers these days are too short to really be called stabilizers. They' re mostly shock absorbers or counter balances, or both. You really don' t get much stabilization, keeping the bow from wiggling around a lot while you aim and retarding recoil on the shot, until you get out to at least 12" in length. And even then, the weight should be at the far end of the stabilizer instead of spread along it' s entire length.

That' s why the open class/freestyle class uses those l-o-n-g stabilizers. Put one of those on that SuperSlam and you' ll see what a stabilizer really is.

If you want a stabilizer that reduces handshock, get a Stealth 6" or 8" hunter and give it a try.
I have owned 17 different stabilizers and the Stealth is the best I have ever tested at reducing handshock.
Matt/PA and I both did a test on various stabilizers last year and had the same findings. Stealth is the best!

I considered those two the best stabilizers at reducing recoil until getting my 8" Hunter Stealth from Jerry.

Mine is called the Shockblocker by NAP. It is 8 inches long and weighs 10 ozs. I will look into the Stealth but like Arthur P said, I am not sure these short ones do much. Shock is not my issue. I tend to have a jittery arm and was looking for something that might help me keep my aim more steady.

If that is the case check out the AEP stabilizers.
I have them in 12, 18, 26, and 30" lengths.
They are avialable in 3/4" and 1" diameters in straight or 10 degree down.
They are my favorite target stabilizers by far and the only one I use now.
The 3/4" diameter models are really light weight if heavy is an issue with you.
They come in silver and black anodized colors plus a wide variety of filmed dipped target colors including camo.
Looks is a personal thing but , to me, they are the coolest looking stabilizers on the market.
I have found my 18" AEP in the 1" diameter size balances most all my bows just fine except for my Bowman bow.
The AEP Quick Detach is the best most rugged on the market and a " must have"
if you get an AEP stabilizer.
It has a dual counter sunk and upper surface and attaches to the stabilizer for a rock solid fit. The AEP standard QD is a best buy at only $14.00 last I checked.

A good stabilizer will quiet and balance your bow. I use the 7" Doinker, and I recommend you give it a try.
