Default Stalking story (newbie)

Been hunting a small area of land a good bit, and recently read an article about stalking deer, and the advantages of hunting after a rain (less scent, leaves soft, less noise) I decided to do a little stalking today after a rain, and temps were around 80 deg and windy shortly after 5pm. I decended into my ravine, didnt make it to the creek and saw movement, so I stopped and waited. A small 100 lb doe jumped out into their trail/ longer clearing. We were in dead lock for 5 min, staring at eachother about 50 yrds apart. Wind was to my advantage, all my scent prevention inplace. Bummer was I think I was spotted by my outline. This deer stared! and stared, licking its nose (im down wind) and then started hoofing and diggin before turning and walking away. I crossed the creek, saw movement to the right, and 2 more larger does crossed the same path. I drew back, about 30-35 yrd from these 2 approching doe, and neither gave me a good shot, lots of brush and trees in the way. Looking back, I should have made a bleat or noise with my mouth to stop them, or get the other 2 to turn. Either way it was nice to see some deer, been slow here. Any other stalking advice would be great. Was way more fun pursuing these deer, than sitting in the stand.
