arrow fletching
#1
i want to get into refletching my carbon arrows. i cant see paying $3 per arrow for someone else to do it. i have a few questions and i know you guys are more informed than i am. i would like to go with the blazer vanes i think. the arrows i have came with straight vanes, but ive read some having helical or offset. whats better? will this help stabilize in flight? should i go with a right or left stabilized? i shoot a right handed bow. what glue/adhesives do you recommend? what jig do you recommend? i saw this ez fletch arizona mini that was $50 that didnt seem too bad. i shoot a diamond rock 68# 31" draw and 100 g tips. thanks for the input

One alternative you might consider is the Quick-Fletch system by NAP. I have been using them for a couple of years now and really like them. All you do is slip them over the shaft and dip them in boiling water and your done. That being said, if you want to know what a good fletcher is, I have a JoJan multi-fletcher that I really like. Also, many guys swear by the Bitzenberger.

You can pick up a use Bitz. on ebay for 30-50 bucks. I shoot a right helical with the blazer vanes and have had no problems. Blazers are actually alot easier to fletch than the old 4" vanes plus take less glue. Goat Tuff glue seems to be the best I have used. If you have ever thought about putting wraps on your arrows then now would be the time too.

Yes, you can buy this jig or that one for $40-50 bucks or just do it right the first time for $70.00 and get a Bitzenberger. Use Fusion or VaneTec and get great flight and for less the price. Always put a little twist in the vanes to get the arrow to spin, and will improve your groups.

These guys that recommend a Bitzenberger aren't blowing smoke.
Walk into just about any shop that does refletching and see what they use. Invariably you're going to see Bitzenbergers and for obvious reasons.
They are the most versatile, most durable, and most accurate jigs you can buy. It takes a little trial and error but the same jig can be used for straight, straight offset, right helical or left helical just by changing clamps and adjusting the jig itself.
I got mine about 35 years ago and it still does all I need to do. I have always done helical so have both right and left clamps. I shoot mostly feathers and shoot either hand depending on what kind of deals I find. Last batch I bought was a bag of Trueflight 4" in black---$2 for the whole bag. So they're black. Who cares?
I've fletched anything from 1.5" vanes up to and including 5" feathers. It can do it all and do it for a lifetime.
