The problem w/the tree I plan on setting up shop in is, its past the main trail where I want to hunt. I'll have to walk past it then up in the stand. However, the walk in is on a good logging road and Ive been able to mow it down and remove any shrubs on the road that may would catch my scent. I also wear rubber boots to minimize my scent.

You'll be much better off being 20 -25 yards off the trail. It gives you a much better angle of attack. You'll also want to read up on how the thermals work (i.e - wind currents blow downhill in the morning and uphill in the afternoon). I know it might seem petty, but paying attention to details are the difference between the guys that tag big bucks every year and everyone else.
