No rip here.... I shoot a 36 inch alpine sidewinder... great for elk and deer, stand, ground and stalking long distances...

CougerMag - no bashing from me My Parker bow is 37" and 7.25 brace. Thats short enough for me - wouldn't go any shorter.

Your last sentence asks us to convince you...

No offense, but... convince yourself.

I believe there are several smooth shooting shorty's out there... and I am willing to bet there is going to be at least one that will snatch your interest.

Afer shooting several shorty's I convinced myself that I preferred the Darton Mag 33. I shot it practically bare... no sights... no stabilizer... and taped-on limb savers to see what it would do. I expected a very radical response, at best. However, the results were completely opposite of what I anticipated.

The bow just sat there after the shot... over and over and over again. I was amazed at how smoth the bow pulled and shot for me!

I currently shoot a Darton Maverick... so maybe I am somewhat biased. However, I truly believe I gave that short bow [and several others] an unbiased test.

Like you... I wasn't about to give those shorty's a chance... until I began shooting them.

My advice? Go shoot a few. Heck... shoot a bunch. You might be surprised at what the techno-geeks can put together these days.

PA Droptine,

I forgot to mention that I have a 33" draw.

I always liked the longer ATA.

These days however, with the trend toward shorter ATA, finding the quality in a longer ATA is getting harder to find. Just my observation. The trend and research and development seems to be more on the shorter ATA and the average draw.

Industry standards. I agree.... heard that. Good point.

I suppose having a 27 1/2 in draw does have its advantages after all, huh?

Well... guess you'll have to ask the other 6'6" fellers about their experience with the shorty's then. Guaranteed... I can't help ya there

short on patience, short on money, and definitely short on inches [not very tall either]

I am a rather short fella myself. I cant count how many times I have stuck my bottom cam in the mud with a long ata bow. I like my short ata bow. To each his own.

Bobco,

33 inch draw? Why didn't you say so? We are almost kindred spirits.... Maybe Arthur P will ask you to join the "Ape-arm-knuckle-draggers Club"!!

My draw length isn't as long as yours (31 inches) but I can sympathize with your statement regarding few companies making bows for people with draw lengths over 30 inches...not to mention 33 inches!!

Having said that I will say that I am not having any problems shooting a 31.75 inch axle to axle length bow with a 31 inch draw length, but, for someone with your gargantuan draw length I would probably go with a bow at least 37-38 inches (provided we aren't talking about finger shooting here) and I know of several quality bows that would cover that axle to axle length requirement and your draw length.

If price is not an issue then either the Hoyt Protec or Ultratec fit you nicely. If price is a concern then the Magnatec (I think) goes up to a 33 inch draw.

I know there aren't many, but if you dig around a little you will find at least a half dozen or so that might suit your needs.....If you ever would need to look for a new bow.

Hey coug I'm not going to argue about this topic because I shoot a 32inch Golden Eagle Splitfirebut that's for hunting ,now if I was to be shooting target's all day I would definetly be going to a longer bow like a Bow-Tech Pro 38 or 40 but for hunting I like the shorter bow because it's easy to manouver in tight spot's and in the treestand and I can carry it easier I can also shoot it well enough to be very accurate in the field ,at times even my 32inch can get in the way in the treestand so now I think maybe I'll go to a Tech 29inch HMMMMM yea I think that's just what I'll do .But I agree to accuracy the longer the bow the more forgiving they are . Happy Hunting COUG!!!
