I hunt in Northeast Arkansas on the St. Francis River bottoms. We own 740 acres and have access to about 200 acres of private ground. This is relatively flat swampy ground greatly affected by the river stage. Deer are fairly new to the area and are not in huge numbers( I think) but there are some large deer. It is also not far from home.
My problem is that I am having trouble finding a pattern on these deer. I was wondering if anyone hunts in areas like this and any tips that might help me place my stands.
Thanks

here' s what i' d do.. find an oak ridge, or ridge or ANYTHING higher than the rest of the groiund that leads to acorn flats and hunt it, whitetaisl will take the easiest path available.. also, hunt acorn flats and coves in the rivers/creeks.. deer like to drink as close to cover as possible, if u find a cove that sticks out into the woods or brush area, LOOK FOR SIGN.. then if you find some, hunt it

Cotton farmer, welcome to the forum. I live in south Ar, which you know is loaded with deer. the main food source down here is acorns. especially whiteoak acorns, but postoak, and redoak are good also. what is the main food source for the deer in your area? if you know the food source, I' d start right there, and find trails, rublines, that lead into your thicker areas. that' s where the deer will bed up. if you can find trails comin out of, and goin in to the thick areas, then you should be able to set up somewhere along these trails(preferably at creek crossins, old log roads, tram roads, a place where the woods narrow down etc, these are all funnels and a good place to set a stand.
you shouldn' t have any problems findin these trails, if it' s a swampy area, deer tracks will be easy to find. of course if the river is up it will push the deer out closer to the hills and ridges. good luck.
