Default 2003 Black Bear

Just thought I would share a picture of my 2003 black bear. I shot this bear at 11:30pm on the 31st of May. It' s a 5&1/2 foot dry sow with a 17" skull and a 2" layer of fat nearly all the way around. I shot her the last night of the hunt, pretty much at the last minute. I have more pictures on my webshots account at http://community.webshots.com/user/arcticbowman
I have also made an album with pictures from the breakfast in Maryland with a few of the board members, so check that out as well. The pictures are on page 2 of my photo albums home page.

Almost forgot the details...

Shot at 14 yards from a tree stand with my Mathews Q2XL set at 65 pounds. I used a Beman ICS 340 tipped with a 125 grain shockwave. The arrow went straight through a rib on the way in and went into the shoulderblade on the far side, but did not penetrate through. The head opened up perfectly, and is in very good shape still. The bear ran less than 15 yards, piled up and started the death moan. She was dead in less than 5 seconds, and still in sight, about 8 yards from my stand.

Dude, every summer I hate you more and more and more and more[>:] It just isn' t right, you hunt too much, your wife lets you hunt too much. Can I come and work with you?

Congrats on the nice bear!! Glad to see the ole Mathews is still letting lightning bolts fly!!! Keep up the good work!!

Hey, tell the wife hi and give that little girl a hug for me.

Thanks for the comments. IL_BOW, sorry to upset you again, but sincerely, it was my pleasure. [:-]

Give the wife and Sky a hug from us as well.

I have been lurking every now and again, but I' ve probably only been online twice in the last couple of weeks due to some family stuff. I' m back up north now and caribou season starts next Tuesday, so I should be around more, hopefully with another critter under the Mathews.

and yes, I did have my cardeer necklace with me on the bear.[:-]

Well welcome back stranger, started to think that one of them creatures up there got you. Congrats on the bear and I' m willing to accept some of that meat via FedEx or UPS or however. After you introduced me to bear meat you left me with none . Bring some more down with you to the get together in 11 days, you have plenty of time to get here. Tell the family hi for us.
