RE: who uses a rangefinder when huntin

I have a cheap optical ranging range finder. Max range is 75 yds, but that more than enough for my bowhunting. I check things out when I first set up, then put it away so I don' t play with it.

I have a Nikon 400 and love it but I' ve never ranged in an animal with it. I will shoot a couple ranges when I first get in my treestand to verify yardage.

Capt Ray, dont be silly. Of course people can judge yardage accurately with their eyes alone, it just takes practice. Shooting without using a range finder is far from a " Hail Marry" . 3D shoots are the best way to find out, I shoot in about two a month.

Yes, I use one all the time. It is really interest what 30 yards looks like on open land compared to thick woods, or across a revine. - very deceiving.

Last year I went ther cheaper route and Bought the Bushnell Yardage Pro Sport, It doesn' t have all the bells and wistles like scan mode and rain mode like the others but it has served me very well so far and I know it will always be with me when i' m in the woods. I usually take some readings when I sit down, I usually try to take readings off of odd looking trees so I can remember them or if it is a stand I use frequently I range distances around the stand with the rangefinder and mark it with colored ribbon that corresponds to the colors of my pins.

i use a ranging tlr75 its inexpensive and as long as you keep it calibrated it works just fine! when i get in my tree stand i check yartdages of some trees near where the deer should come from and you know how that goes! just to have an idea of which pin to use so it' s less thought when the moment of truth arises;)

Yeah I carry one but in the last 7 years I have yet to use it on any of the elk or mulies I' ve taken.....I had one opportunity to use it on my nicest mulie buck but guess what....I forgot it at the truck.....I must be a " legend in my own mind" because I' ve judged yardage fairly well so far.....
