If you paint them now and have a month or more before season, you' ll be okay. We normally build at this time too and stands go out in late Aug or Early Sept. Have yet to have a problem. We do however leave ours out during interim. Hope this helps.

if your gonna set them up and leave them out i wouldnt be concerned i think in a couple weeks the smell will go or the deer will get used to it. if you plan on hunting from them right away go with an exterior latex water based paint in a can. it will dry faster and the the smell should be less. i like to go to the local home depot and buy the clearance cans of paint that the people brought back. you can get a gallon sometimes for a dollar and get some very interesting colors. with a ladder stand i like to use light colors because of the big outline of it. i like to use tan, brown and light greys broken up with black. if your gonna leave them out a cheaper way is to go to a dollar store and buy the 6foot lengths of leaf garland. they usually have some variation of oak or maple leaves. just attach them with black plastic ties or similar. get painting!

I agree. You should be pretty safe if you painted them now. Off Season is always the best time for that kind of stuff. Good luck

I painted mine with some black Rustoleum last August and was hunting in them for last years October archery season last year. I saw plenty of deer. If they' re out there for a while, than it should be OK.
