Group tuning broadheads?
I shot mechanicals last year and have a new pack of Sidewinders for this year. They fly exactly like my field tips. I have paper shot my bow and I' m shooting bullet holes. BUT.....I also have a pack of Thunderheads that I would like to try this season also. My Thunderheads hit to the right of my field tips. If I move my rest to the left to bring my Thunderheads into my field tips, will this affect my arrow flight with my mechanicals? How far is too far to move the rest? At 20 yards my Thunderheads are hitting about 2 inches to the right.

Are you sure they are not planeing? Are they all tuned the same? Try heating the tip or your arrow and changing the configuration of how the broadhead sits at full draw. Try to set each so that when you look at it, head on, it resembels a " Y" . I' m not sure you want to move your rest if you shoot field points good out to 40 yards without problems. That to me says your bow is probably tuned O.K. What weight are the Thunderheads compared to the mechanicals? (spine of shaft effects?)

Anytime you move the rest it will effect the flight. Since most mechanicals do shoot like field points You should be able if you choose, make the thunderheads hit with your field points. 2" at 20 yards is not much and by moving the rest in small amounts you most likely can get all three types of heads to hit together. Of course you may not get perfect bullet holes in the paper anymore, but as long as the tears are small and your groups are nice and tite I wouldn' t worry about it. You can go to my website www.broadheadtests.com and click on tuning. I have outlined some things that may be helpful to you.

Do you hunt large game with fieldpoints? Quit trying to get different designed heads that fly differently to imitate each other.
If all heads are flying clean but are simply grouping differently on the target, don' t try and reinvent the wheel. Adjust your sight for the different shafts and mark the settings for the particular mounted shaft.
