Wink The fall

So, I went out the other day to move my tree stand to a different location. As I am preparing the move I test all limbs going up and a "rock solid lead" coming off the tree that is about 6" in diameter and 2' in length. After several trips to the ground and back up, in reliance to this particualr lead I was feeling pretty comfortable.
I sank my climbing spikes into the tree on my second climb and used them as one would and as I am attaching my foot platform I rely ( as I did several time) on this particular lead, only for it to snap, send me in a 25' free fall downward spiral towards the ground....from the drop to the stop I recall nothing, the first thing I recall is trying to wedge my azz out of the crotch of the tree I had climbed, feeling like a turtle with its head coming out of the shell, I made it out of the crotch with some effort and upon inspection, there were "bark burns" on both azz cheecks but as I pondered how lucky I was and how much worse it could have been I am thankful that my stupidity has not let my family down.

I have not been in the tree since, not because I am "scared" but because I have not made it to get the "right" harness to put myself in that situation again.

In the morning Gander is on my list of things to do, then will I climb that tree again....yes I will and I will make the most of it.

Just a reminder that not all falls happen from "sleeping" but all falls do happen from "sleeping" , if you catch my drift.

WOW, glad your ok. This is a good reminder to all of us that get up in tree's. Like he said, don't let your family's down. Don't be to lazy or cheep to put on a harness. Lets all come home safe and enjoy a back strap barbecue.
