How many use Mechanical's How many use fixed

There have been alot of discussions about people's preference of broadheads. I am curious to what percentage use solid one piece fixed blades, replaceable razor fixed blade, Rear opening mechanicals and forward opening mechanicals. I am not trying to start another debate, just trying to figure out what most people prefer in regard to type of broadhead.
Thanks

I use mechs for now, it's my first season so we'll see how it goes

Had good success with the 3-blade spitfire mechanicals in the past but switched to a 2-blade rage last season and lets put it this way...I will be shooting that same rage this year and many years to come.

907Alaska 09-12-2009 08:44 PM

I use the ones listed in my signature...along with G5 Strikers sometimes...so I use both...sometimes the Spitfires and sometimes one of the others.

BUCKMARK 09-12-2009 08:46 PM

I use Muzzy's. 3-blade 100's...

killzonearchery 09-12-2009 08:57 PM

rage 2 blade only way to go

fixed replacable

treestandsnyper 09-13-2009 08:50 AM

I've used fixed blade (replaceable blade) heads since I started bowhunting years ago. Most recently I've used the G5 Strikers. This year I'm going to be using my first mechanical head... Rocket Steelheads.

MeanV2 09-13-2009 08:56 AM

I have used both mechanicals and fixed blade broadheads for long stretches of time and taken well over 50 animals with each.
I like the idea of mechanicals but do not like the higher possibility of failure with them. With todays Super short broadheads Great flight is not a problem for anyone with even basic tuning skills.
So I really No longer see the advantage to using a mechanical:wink:

Muzzy, G5, Thunderhead fixed 3 or 4 blade have always done the job. Always had pass throughs. I've shot expandables before but had some bad rubber band experiences that put me off of them.

I'm using 2-blade Rage. This is my first year hunting and someone recommended them to me. Hopefully I get to try them out.

roundhead 09-13-2009 02:38 PM

used the rage 3 blade last year and wasn't impressed, I lost a buck. I've shot the g5's before, this year for the WI opener with a g5 at 30 yards it was a clean pass through, and went only 35 yards, I'm shooting fixed from now on.

Dont like the expandable, too much can go wrong, on the buck I shot only 2 blades deployed. Too much hair clogged I figure. It was loaded. And I know, 2 blades is still good with a good shot but it wasn't a bad shot.

Basically, you need to figure out what works best for you. Everyone has their opinions and it's trial and error. I had a bad experience with them and I'm done.

I've been using Rocky Mountain 3 Blades since they came on the market in the mid 70s. I was going to try Rocky Mountain mechanical but have been in 3 different Bowhunting camps where a hunter OR hunters have had a problem of some sort with them-various heads. Lost game with apparently a good hit & not a pass through, not good penetration.
I just decided it was not worth a chance. I nearly always shoot through my animals & thats what I prefer.
I also like to travel to Tx or Ok. on a couple trips in the off season to Bowhunt Wild Hogs & the places I go do not allow mechanicals. They just say, to much lost game.
I'm not saying their not good-I see plenty of animals shot with them on TV & I've seen several animals taken by other hunters.

You didnt put my response in the pole! I am puting 3 of each in my quiver this year. This is because I have arrows tuned to each and depending on what stand, distance, and shot opportunity may decide what I may use.

4evrhtn 09-14-2009 02:10 AM

Are you using Uncle Ted's quiver? What broad head do you use the "most"?

HooSIER|Hunter 09-14-2009 03:18 AM

G5 Tekan's for me

BvrHunter 09-14-2009 04:18 AM

bigtim6656 09-14-2009 04:19 AM

I've been using NAP Thunderheads for the last couple of seasons but I've been thinking of trying the Rage 2 blades.

NVbowjunkiey 09-14-2009 08:47 AM

fixed replacable for me...

1shotkill1993 09-14-2009 08:53 AM

This year I switched to the g5 strikers. It's a fixed blade...not sure if it is replaceable though.

I plan on using my Muzzy 3 blades more than anything. The Reges are in there two. Just a regular Hoyt 5 arrow quiver, but I alyas have on in my side arrow clip on pack.

These are the heads I also use. They are replaceable razor fixed heads.

Just curious, what is your reason for deciding to switch from fixed to mechanical? Is it the advertising? Do you think they will outperform? Just wondering why a lifelong user of replaceable fixed heads is now deciding to switch.

blindluck 09-16-2009 06:41 AM

muzzy MX-3 all the way

blindluck 09-16-2009 06:43 AM

if your gonna go with grim reaper i think the razorCUT is better than the razorTIP! i shot the grim reaper Hades for about 3 years...i like them alot but that is a fixed blade and you dont seem to want that...

deerdart 09-16-2009 09:27 AM

throphy ridge meat seacker machanicals just got them this year they look good and they claim to be better than the rage

DeerandbearhoG 09-16-2009 10:20 AM

I have used Sonics in 07 and 08 and was extremely impressed w/ the flight, penetration and blood trails. I was gonna save some $ this year, and use some unused muzzys from a few seasons ago, but I found a dozen sonic 125s in the bargain bin at my proshop ,for 36$!:woot:So I scooped em up. Im surprised how few people shoot these heads, theyre awesome!

I love g5s. They are fixed, but the great thing, the edges are oriented to where all you have to do to sharpen them is lay them flat on a stone and rub. Great head.
