I agree with stealthycat and davidmil. There is no proof that Zaft's arrow killed this buck, or even that it is the same buck that he claims to have hit. The buck could have also been wounded by Zaft, but actually killed by coyotes or wolves. Who is to say that it might not have even been a wound the deer would have recovered from if not killed by coyotes/wolves. Way too many questions for the Zaft buck to be a new P&Y World Record. If it were to be ruled a “pick up/found” it could not be listed in Pope & Young, but could be listed in the Boone & Crocket records.
On another note I find it personally disgusting how quickly Zaft has tried to capitalize financially. Can you believe the marketing campaign he has going? The ink isn’t even dry on the score sheet and he is using a website to market replicas, outfitter services, memorabilia. Any hunter would be pumped about taking a monster buck and want to tell his story, but this goes way beyond good taste into the realm of shameless self-promotion. Welcome to hunting in the twenty-first century.
