Itook up bowhunting in 1956-took my 1st Deer (a yearling Doe) 2 years later in 1958. I have never gun hunted any biggame & now have been blessed to have bowhunted many many varieties of biggame.
I still remember that shot as if it were yesterday-2009 is the start of my 53rd year of bowhunting.
I was fortunate to have taken 2 wild hogs in Oklahoma & 2 Whitetails in Iowa in 2008.
Good Luck to you this year.

I know I'm in the minority, but I got my first buck on the second day of the season my first year bowhunting. 8 pointer that scored about 110 or so. I'm hooked now!!!

About 30 minutes after I got in the treestand for the very first time with a bow!

It's kind of a funny story- I had just started to learn/been shooting for about 3 weeks and my Bear cracked a (plastic) cam or module (I had no clue at the time which piece was what) 2 days before opening day.The bow was used so I headed up to the shop (that I later worked at) that night- a Thursday night and bought a brand new Golden Eagle, sight, Overdraw plus rest, and arrow. Was tuned up with broadheads on Friday, drove 4 hours Saturday morning and Killed the deer that evening @ 4:30

It's been all downhill ever since

I'll be on year 3 in September..still not even a shot but one blown opportunity on a doe.
Archery is making me a better hunter though..I'm finding the game and getting closer each year..I hunt in a very tough WMA..

It took me 3 or 4 years I do not recall exactly.. It was a yearling doe I had missed the day before and finally connected the next day. It was a some had stated what could of been a monster buck it didn't make any difference. It was after I had purchased a new bow as my old bow I never really felt comfortable with it. Up here also the deer numbers are low and getting a shot at one is tough going. Today in this area it's bucks only no matter what is the weapon of choice. I had a few chances at does but didn't see any bucks last fall. I also up graded my bow this year as my last one was 20 + years old and what a difference the newer ones are..
