So the off season boredum has struck so I decided to throw out a trail camera right behind my house, we had seen a lone hen wandering around, now I have lived there 22 years and have never seen a turkey around so that is pretty huge, one hen...anyways...trail camera right on the edge of our woods 50 lbs of corn in front of it...that night as soon as it got dark you could see it flash for most of the night, I'm thinking dang raccoons...well I went out the very next afternoon and pulled the card and no raccoons at all, instead a herd of deer enjoying the free meal...one of which caught my eye and is case in point of why you for one know where you are aiming at and two don't shoot at a moving target right...looks like a slug hole to me...good news is that she looks healthy and if she made it this long she'll make it through.

If you are referring to the dark spot on her leg, I think you are merely seeing a dark tarsal gland and the flash has somewhat distorted the contrast. Both bucks and does have this gland and it can vary a lot in color from deer to deer. No slug hole.

Nice pic!!
