Are there any disadvantages to hunting with a thumb release?

Tom
The only thing i can think of is you could lose it or drop it out of your treestand. If you keep it on your bow string you shouldn't have a problem.

The cheapest decent one I have seen is the Tru Fire 3D Hunter. Right around 75 bucks.

Hey guys,

Need some more assistance. The release I'm interested in, based on research of course, is the Tru Ball Pro Diamond.

Here is my question. If I change over to a thumb release won't that require that my string become longer? Won't it end up being at least 1-1.5" closer?

Thanks

Tom

Nope, DL doesn't change with what release you use...it still attaches to the string in the same spot....It will most likely change your anchor point a little bit, but that is the only difference I have seen since I changed from a wrist strap to a thumb release...

I currently use my jaw hinge to pointer finger as my anchor point then nose lightly on the string. If you switch to a thumb release what else could one use?

I am so done with strap releases for target. Stretch, strech, buy another. I am ready for a thumb release. Tried back tension and it was not for me. I need to know when it is going off. Anyone have any suggestions for a solid quality design thumb or tripper hand release that does not change your anchor much from a wrist to a hand release?

The same thing! You rotate your hand where your index and middle knuckle split the corner of your jaw bone. You will anchor the same basically. If you use the hinge of your jaw, then you would want your middle knuckle in tehhinge. BTW, the pro diamond might actually make your draw a little longer (not much at all) They do for me anyway, all of tru-balls hand helds do. They are good though.

I have a Carter Fits Me, and a Carter Insatiable2. I really like the Carters but there are quite a fewquality thumb releases out there. Tru-ball's 360 is real nice, as is Stanislawski's sx2(VERY adjustable)

I love my thumb releases

Well, in our 3D league we were in the top 3 all season until I shot the wall a few times last night. I bought this release:
http://www.obsessionarchery.com/stan-super-trio-release-p-788.html
I love it, but I had a stupid idea that I could shoot it only having practiced for 30 minutes before league and do well. The travel needed to be adjusted and I needed to change my form on my draw. I kept hitting my chest and sending them flying. I am sure that I will develop new habits and get better with it. It does not let me know when it goes off and that is a bad thing for now, but I am sure that this will be a good thing after I get better with it. Testing various techniques and settings still.

That should be the best thing about it

That is a really nice release with very good adjustability.
