This is very common on alot of other forums (non archery) I visit.

On occasion if you buy a " site supporter membership" (nominal fee per year) on those other forums you can turn off the ads. I don't like it either but I'm sure in order to keep costs low and the boards a viable service (especially in THIS economy) this will be more common. This software & the servers ain't cheap.

These kinds of posts crack me up- People complaining about a TOTALLY FREE SITE for you to use.

How much benefit have you got from this site?

How much equipment advice?

How much hunting advice?

Ever bought or sold any equipment here?

what about all the great people you may have met? or invited you to hunt?

Yeah..what a bunch of jerks...putting up some ads to keep this place free for us

I plan on staying because of the people here and the knowledge.

Most other sites don't charge you are correct, they ALSO run ads- like AT.

Hey Jeff, I don't mind advertisement. I do understand that it's how some of these sites stay in existance. I wasn't born yesterday. However, this site was getting by just fine with the advertising it was doing before (bottom of the page, ect) this in your facein your post advertising isa bit much!Do you not agree? People WILL get tired of it and move on, I can promise you that.[&o] And all of the folks on here are a bunch of great people, that's the tragedy of all of this. I've been on here forquite some time!

How do you KNOW they were getting along just fine? Business-wise? Alot of businesses are in serious trouble these days- even previously wildly succesful ones.

Is it annoying? A bit, but not enoough for me to care. I rarely ever find such ads annoying unless it's stuff that blatantly unrelated to the subject at hand (the ads here are related to hunting). I vist other sites with similar advertisement and take little or no notice. a few sites I vist are full of "personal ads" "lose 20 pounds in 3 days" type of stuff and yup that's really annoying. But thats not the case here.

At any rate- people have to pay bills, and that bowhunter.com site is doing it with an online store- and plugging the bejeesus out of products they sell and ads at the top of the page. One way or another you are gonna get bombarded.

While I took a few years off, I was here long before my "join date" shows. I don't find this tragic at all. It's an internet site about hunting-mountains and molehills.

Not sure how it works here but a lot of websites make their money by collecting each time someone clicks on an ad.....I am assuming the same here.

By the way.............I don't like it either.

Apparently the site hasn't been slow and clunky enough so they need to make it worse. I'm out'ta here.
