RE: Hypothetical ? for you guys.......................
Nope, he gets a pass until next year.

RE: Hypothetical ? for you guys.......................
I think I would have to pass on him, and count the trip as the easiest shed hunt I had ever been on.

ORIGINAL: Ohiobuck25 ORIGINAL: Rory/MO What are the chances:D. I'd decide if the opportunity arose. Thinking about it right now, I'd shoot and go get the antlers and then mount him, if he was nice enough:) I think I am with you Rory! I know you can still mount him with his sheds, andas long as he can still be entered in P&Y and/or B&C, he's gettin it! :) That being said, why bother killing him after he has shed. You can get a cape and mount the antlers. I am never that hard up for meat. He walks if he has shed no matter what tags I have left!!! |
RE: Hypothetical ? for you guys.......................
If the million to one odds of his rack falling off right before he comes into shooting range and I have a "doe" tag, I'm drilling him.
How about reversing the question. You have a buck tag and they fall off moments before he gives you a shot?[8D] |

RE: Hypothetical ? for you guys.......................
Thump. If it was a 'shooter' before hand and it suddenly became antlerless (legal!), it would go down. I would never enter antlers into any book anyway and I can reattach them to a nice euro mount very well...I have on two that had antlers come off after the shot (gun in the late season).

RE: Hypothetical ? for you guys.......................
Right now I would say let him walk, but when I was on stand and had to make that decision, I don't know what I would do.

RE: Hypothetical ? for you guys.......................
Abiding by the law and he is indeed, at that point, considered an antlerless deer, I would kill him and let the taxi do his magic. I'm sure your game departmant has figured this late season antler shed into their season dates and quota numbers (isn't it about the deer and not the horns from a conservationist's point of view). Would you have shot him if you didn't see his antlers drop and the horn weren't there? The law is the law. Where have youerrored by killing an antlerless deer? What you do after the fact is your business, right? If he was good enough to shoot on day one, isn't hegood enough late in the season? You were given a "factored" in bonus, IMO. Ethically, I do not see any reason why you shouldn't or wouldn't capitalize on it.If I were looking for a "book" deer, I would naturally pass.

You let him walk if you have any conscience at all ...........................

RE: Hypothetical ? for you guys.......................
Well since i get 2 buck tags it really doesn't apply ( you forgot that part Rory:)). If I had one left, he's down. If I've filled both buck tags already he's walking and I've got a new set of rattlin' horns.
