I'm really Not into Elitist attitudes. I mean No I wouldn't/couldn't shoot at a deer at 100 yards, butI get so tired of.............................

If you shot it over 30/40 yards you are unethical

If you don't hunt with a stick and string you are not a purist.

If you lease ground and kill a Big Buck it doesn't count.

If you hunt with an Outfitter it doesn't count if you nail a Big One .

If you don't hunt public ground you are not a real hunter.

If you use light arrows you won't get any penetration.

If you use a Cross bow you Suck!

It goes on and on!!

Sometimes I wonder how many varied experiences some people have.

Why doesn't everyone just admit it. If you don't do it Like I do then you can't be a good hunter.

This is not directed at anyone, but come on guys is this what we are really all about??

Dan

Dan I agree with you to an extent, but I also grow tired of the anything-goes-mentality, specifically when it comes to shooting. In my mind it is taking bowhunting in the wrong direction. This is not directed to you bud.

Remember, though I flexible I am also set in my ways.

I wouldn't do it nor anyone else on my land otherwise they are kicked off.....Oh wait that is my father im talking about. I know a guy that took a fifty fiveyard shotat a buck about 18 years ago and hit the vitals. It was a main frame ten with twelve kickers. As a kid I was thinking that was an amazing shot for that time. Take the technology back then I would say a fifty yard shot 18 years ago would equal out to a 100 yard shot today. I still wouldn't do it but some people do. The guy Im talking about is still one of the best hunters I know today.

I practice out to 100 yds on occasion. The only reason I do is because I have enough room. I'm usually quite happy when I hit my 3'X3' bag target. And I mean anywhere on that target not any particular ring.I swear it moves on me. In reality I shoot about a 1' group. I might try field archery and get my butt whipped by those guys that know what they are doing but toshoot at any animal at that distance is not something I'll try.

There are folks on here, who I bet can't consistently hit a 3d deer vitals with trad gear even under20 yards, but they still take thier gear out in the field. Nobody bats an eye on here.
But are they going to shoot at a live deer at 100 yards?
Doesn't matter if you are shooting a live animal at 100 yards or 15. If you can't look at someone and say you can hit the vitals every time, you shouldn't be using that weapon at those distances.

I learned how to shoot from Dave Barndsale. He has won multiple tournaments in his life, including Vegas. He can shoot at 100 yards just like it is 20 yards, but even he stressed to me as a young kid to NEVER EVER take that kind of shot on alive animal. This is coming from someone who could make the shot. Just stupid IMO to even comtemplate it.

Those whose ethics change with the size of the animal have not ethics at all.

Come on now Mark!! I have a hard time believing that you never miss when practicing at 15 yards with your longbow.

Sure I do. Or have. But right now, if someone came and bet me 1000 dollars on if I could hit9 out10 arrows anywhere 18 yards or under on the vitals of a 3d deer, I would take that bet.

As I am sure 90% of you guys would shooting your compound at 30 or for some 40 yards.

BeforeI shoot at an animal, I need that much confidense I can make it happen. Thats just me.
