My longest shot to date is 39 yards on a doe I took from the ground in a field this year. Prettiest shot I've ever made. Most of my shots don't go beyond 30 yards. The terrain and cover I usually find myself in doesn't allow for shots much farther than 25 in most cases.

Don't shoot past your comfort zone. If you do, it'll get you in trouble more times than not.

I've taken a dozen or more animals at 35 to 52 yards, but my biggest buck to date was shot at 3 yards.

There are times that you shouldn't take a 20 yard shot, and there are times when a 40 or 50 yard shot is not right. You have to learn when the shot is makeable and when you should not shoot. That is a bigger challenge than actually having the accuracy to make the shot.

Maybe I was lucky, but I never wounded an animal on a long range shot. I prefer 40 yards or less

Dan
The above is 100% true. I have never missed my 3D target (which does not move or react to the shot) in my backyard while shooting at it between 20 and 50 yards. However, this year I made kills of 13, 27, 37, 34, 5, 22, and 24 and missed my biggest buck ever at 26 yards when he dropped at the snap of the string and my arrow sailed over his back.

22 yards twice with my recurve, both were double lung heart shots. Them are the farthest shots I've ever taken In 23 years of bow hunting.
Thats awesome!!!

I like others, usually dont have the chance to take far shots b/c of the thick woods.

One hog at 33.
Everything else has been at less than 20 yards.

30 yards on a buck a couple years ago, everything else has been under 20 yards... I have a pin for 40 yards, but havent had the opportunity to take a shot at that distance, but I feel confident if it happens.

34 yards on my second archery buck. Single lung/liver. Shot a doe at 30 yards from the ground last year. Other than that, all my other kills have averaged around 15 yards.
