Steve, I'm pulling 50 pounds! My arrows fly like darts, bow is quiet as a church mouse and packs a punch, I'm pretty happy!!!!!

I have hunting arrows weighing 330 grains. I also have them weighing up to a tad over 500 grains.
It's pretty narrow minded to think that a light or heavy arrow is the only way to go.
Things to consider are expected shot distance, size of game you are after, resulting KE from your setup with a certain weight arrow.
I'm not a Gun hunter, but I doubt a serious Big Game gunhunter uses the same caliber and weight of bullet for eveything he hunts.
I wouldn't go Antelope, or Mule Deer hunting with a 600 grain arrow because the KE with a lighter setup is still more than adequate, and the flatter trajectory is a big advantage.
There arethings that IMO are more important in a great hunting arrow than just overall weight.
Spine
FOC (minimum 12% but I prefer closer to 15%)
Adequate fletching
etc.

Brian,
Putting your set-up on OT2, I used a Katera because the specs are about the same, at your DL 27.5 and 68#'s if you use a 28" GT 5575 and a 125gr BH/FP you'll have right close to a 390gr set-up, with a near perfect spine, FOC of 12.15%. Still keeping you in a good high 280's speed range with LOTS of energy behind it, 72ft/# off the rest, and maintaining 65ft/#'s at 45yds. Drop to 350, and you start out at 68 and drop to 62. But other things to take into consideration are the vibration the bow has to absorb if the arrow isn't absorbing it all, which will create noise, loosen up attachements to the bow (sight, stab, etc).

For my compound I shoot 29"CX Terminators 6075 (arrows I already had when I bought the bow)With the 100 grain head they weigh inat 480gn. They seem to fly goodbut I may switch to lighter arrows this spring if money permits. My bow is pulling 29" and is 74lbs actual weight. KE is high with this setup. So I think going down around400-420 maybe better out at a little longer range without penetration issues. I'm no arrow expert though so I tend to run the heavier side (Trad background too)
With my selfbow pulling 70# @ 27" I shoot a 600-620 grain rivercane arrow. I just weighed an older one with a different head and it was right in that range. Should hit prett hard too.

Seems most Trad guys are just as weight concious as compound guys but at the other end of the spectrum and even take into account extreme front of center balance percentages. My arrows are around 560 gr for my 53# recurve. I have 145gr Magnus Stingers up front and footed aluminum shafts.

Shultzy....we are almost twins! You are just a tad longer arrow...
29" draw, 65lbs
28" long 2216 XX78's
5" vanes
125 magnus
520gr tot weight
Shooting 245fps
= pass through central!
