Default NAP Spitfire XP - Love'em?? POLL

Any spitfire... the XP or standard..I know you guys are out there..

Is it the name of the rage the draws us in? What about the Spitfire XP?

Here is a clip fromone of myXP kills.

3 deadly blades and 100 gr.....and they fly through theair like a field tip...sweet as can be.

I Like em'.......but IMO they're an even poorer selection for those who are shooting marginal energy set-ups than even the Rage 2 blade.

They have a relatively wide 3 blade cut and with the jackknife style of opening combined with the relatively stiff retention clips that hold the blades and I'd definitely recommend a high level of KE to use them successfully (successfully = pass through )
I wouldn't use them on deer unless I was over 65ft lbs of KE, and I'd feel even more comfy at 70ft lbs +.

They're well made, blades are typical NAP razor sharp and tough but not a head for everyone that's for sure.
To generalize, save them and heads like the WASP Jackhammer, Rocket Hammerhead etc for the higher energy bracket guys.

Its also the only jacknife style expandable head I've ever used that gave me bullet hole entry wounds. Great exits but small rifle like entry.

I've never measured my KE but with my old Hoyt Havoctec at 265 fps I was getting lung pass throughs out to 30 yards with 5575 gold tips.

I've only used the Spitfires when I hunted with my CB which was a number of years ago, but I'll tell you what, they leave a gaping hole with a resulting blood bath!

I've been using them for about 7 years now. One of the best mech's I've ever tested. I do work the blades back and forth to loosen them up a little, and I lube them with vasoline. Even on turkeys they open on impact, 3 for 3 on em.

I shoot 60/28 Mathews SBXT....Gold Tip XT Hunter 5575...Spitfire XP 100gr.....SMOKIN' setup!!!!!!!! I buy new ones every year online in January when a bunch of online sites have sales. My old ones I use for practice.

Accuracy is top notch...and I'm 100% confident they're right in line with my field tips.

Blades have deployed every time and leave awesome blood trails on broad side shots. The 12pt I shot this year had blood spraying out 5' on both sides. Stevie Wonder could have seen the blood trail.

Matt / PA, once you open the blades by hand a few times the clip in the slit loosens up. My entry holes have always been nice slices...even when going thru rib bones. I'm not sure what kind of KE my setup has...but it hasn't failed me since I switched to them in '04.

Great! I've killed many deer with the NAP Spitfire XP's. This year I tried the Rockey Mountain Gators (2 blade) and loved them too...

I have been using them since 97. Awesome results! Killed 20 plus deer with them plus other big game animals. I lot my first deer to one this year. But that was all my fault. The entry holes are unreal and the exit holes are ridiculous![8D] I love'em!!
