You can hunt with whatever you choose (as long as its legal) Just dont tell me what to choose or that my choice is beneath you.

I must have missed that part.

LOL...I know. Never let the truth get in the way of a good inflammatory statement!:D

Stealthycat, you do know if you didn't cut the tree down and make your own bow, make your string from sinew and knap (chip) your own point from flint, your not bowhunting, your just recurving.

magicman54494 your view on crossbows is highly frowned on, you know that right? Compound shooters all the way up to the Pope and Young Club lobby hard to keep them out of archery season.

Your compound brothers - what are your feeling on that? elitism at its finest?

You can hunt with whatever you choose (as long as its legal) Just dont tell me what to choose or that my choice is beneath you.
and that, is where I am at as well as far as if its legal, hunt with it and enjoy! Pandora's box is wide open with compounds, allow crossbows and drawlock's too - up until the point where it effects archery seasons by days or bag limits, then restrictions definitely needs to be looked at for sure.

"beneath you" isn't accurate - its just recognizing what is more challenging and what isn't

why is that a problem ?

I absolutely know that self bowyers are the truest form of bowhunting - but that said, I can pick their self bows up and cane shafts with knapped heads and shoot them fairly well, they are pretty much the same bow and shooting that I do right now.

Can you say the same?

Brad, you got to be kidding me. True, I can shoot my osage probably just as good as my zipper, but Brad, there is a huge difference in the 190fps I get with my zipper compared to my 155fps I get from my osage. You, yourself have faced the penetration delimma and have gone down the road of buying every super fast barebow, one can shoot.

That would be 1 for 4 then?

MAtt....don't you attribute that (what you speak of) to most bows being more "custom"? I think you'd see the same thing if there were 4-5 major mfr's of trad bows and hardly ANY custom bows.
I think the custom guys resent a little bit Black Widows as not being a "custom" bow and especially now that the risers are machined rather than handcrafted (mine is one of the last handcrafted models)
When in reality you can get a Black Widow in all sorts of custom configurations. I think a lot of the older Traditional guys who don't shoot BW are just anti "big company", "advertising", "commercialization" types and BW just rubs them the wrong way. LOL

The BW shooters do seem to be just a LITTLE more defensive of their bows and vocal of how much they prefer them as well.

IN any event they sure do seem to touch a nerve.:D

There's a little more too the BW debate I believe. I was all excited to get a PSA-V. But most of the riser is synthetic materials. My PLX has a big strip of Phenolic material running thru the riser. Where most trad bows has more wood than glass.

What if I go to 1200 grain arrows and my Zipper now shoots the same speed as the Osage ? Still the same way of shooting the bow man - and compounds are not shot the same nor are crossbows.

Speed isn't what separates bows bigcountry - you know that

That would be 1 for 4 then?
Shooting and killing are 2 different things, aren't they? I can shoot that osage, you very likely cannot if you're a compounder. I can shoot your compound easily though - they're built that way you know. We both can shoot a crossbow shooters bow in just a few shots too.

RE: I never knew...

notice nobody wants to talk about the hatred compound shooters have for crossbows?

start a thread declaring you don't mind crossbows in archery season - the rabid anti-cross zealots will come out in full elitist force exclaiming how some one else's choice of archery weapon doesn't belong in the season that compounders hijacked.
