That's what I did with my post, EI. Jesus...lol.
I basically said the difference didn't matter!

And nice "pass", BTW....;). I knew there was more to the story.

That small bush may not deflect an arrow but what happens when the head hits a branch the size of my little finger? How much KE is lost? How much penetration is lost? What happens to that deer when you get 2" of penetration because the bush absorbed all the KE and killed all the momentum?

RE: Shooting through brush...

If the brush is touching the deer I probably would, but I’ve never actually been faced with that option. . Otherwise no. I’ve put arrows thru some small openings, but as far as just trying to shoot thru a “mesh” of small limbs, no way. An arrow can deflect far off in short time.

There was nothing I wanted more on this planet than to kill an elk this fall, but I wasn’t going to force an arrow thru the brush in the hopes of doing so. Taking mere moments longer in search of an opening (which likely would have been found) cost me twice, but such is hunting.

RE: Shooting through brush...

I passed up a TON of shots earlier in the year, because either there was brush, or I didn't feel 100% about shooting. I look back and am glad that I didn't shoot when I didn't feel comfortable.

Practise it and then decide. One thing you'l learn is what you can and cannot shoot over/under and at what distance the object your trying to avoid has to be. With any shot I wouldn't decide untill I gave it serveral. I'm not out there to watch game walk.

How do you feel about shooting through brush, small limbs, briars and so on ?
Simple, don't do it.
That pretty much should be the end of this thread.

Don't Do It.

I don't shoot through brush with a slug gun, I couldn't imagine doing it with a bow.
