Taking pictures of your deer.

Who doesn't take pictures of the deer they've killed?I might snap one or two if there's something different or interesting about the deer. But for the most part I just don't take many pictures. No idea why really. I just don't. Am I about the only one that doesn't?

I'm the same way, although I do a much better job of it than I used to. That is one of my regrets actually. I wish I had more pictures of me and my buddies on our successful hunts. I'd have some good ones (at least to me) over the last 33 years.

I have always taken pics of the deer I have shot.. Now my wife takes most of them and cuts them up to put in a scrap book so she can show them later.. It makes it hard to post them when they are all chopped up.[&:]But i do like to look at the years back whenI was younger standing proudly beside the deer hanging up..

I try to take good quality pictures of everydeer I shoot. I figure they are all a trophy to some degree and with a dig cam you sure can take alot of pictures and always find a few keepers..

Plus I left a small part of my brain in the 70's so the pictures help me remember.

RE: Taking pictures of your deer.

I am kind of the opposite, I love taking a lot of pictures. I love looking back at them after the season, gets me pumped for the next hunting season. Its funny how I sometimes forget what I had for breakfast but I can look at a picture of a deer me or someone in my family shot five years ago and I can tell you exactly what happened, where it was, what the weather was like, what everyone said, etc. My father is the same way with taking a lot of pictures so maybe that's where i got it from. Someone asked him the other day if he had many pictures of us kids. He just smiled and said yup i have a ton of pictures, but most of them have dead animals in it haha.

As I matured as an archery hunter, I also matured as a photographer for quality photos. Like was said, it's about memories, keepsakes and sharing.

I take a few of my own deer but not too many. I probably have taken just as many for others as I have for myself.

I do take pics for the most part. My vice is not taking the camera with me into the woods, always seem to forget it back at the truck so I drag the deer to the edge of the woods, retrieve my camera from the truck and start clicking.

Most of my older pictures are of them on the hood of my jeep, getting skined out, or just holding a rack in my hands.
Was not a big priority for everyone to take magazine quality pictures back then, at least not for me. I didn't start taking good picturestill I was on a Pro Staff, and wrote a few articles for magazines. The last2 good ones I shot, oneran accross the river on to private property and had to wait till the next morning to get permission to look for it, it had been picked clean by Yotes during the night. The other one we did not get in with it till late and was going to take pics in the morning, by the time I got up the nextday blow flies were all over it and did not have time to wait for someone to come over to take Pics befor I processed it.
Ihave 2 good cameras now andI think I jinxed myself!!!

RE: Taking pictures of your deer.

I take pictures of ones I feel are a trophy to me. I sure don't get into the glamour shots that I see some take. I sure won't run in and put on camo to pose for an animal. I killed probably the biggest doe I ever killed yesterday and thought about taking pictures because of her size, but batteries are dead on the camera, and I am busy.

I used to put so much more emphasis on pictures and trophies, even last year, but I am finding more and more my old grandpa was right. The older you get, the more emphasis you put on your family and kids. I was recently told by an older gentleman who is probably close to seeing the end, "if you were to die today, all those mounts you have, will be either thrown away or sold in a garage sale for 15 dollars". No one values them but you. I am still not to that point that old man was, but he had some valid points.

I dont take many pictures either. I dont have pictures of more than half the deer I have shot.
As mentioned by another--If I do take a picture I dont get all camo'dup for it either. Mostpictures I have are just the deer--not mewith it.

My 3 Kids all have Dibs on my deer heads when I pass, I told them I hope none of them have hair left on them by then!

I take pictures of every deer I harvest. To me, it is just part of the hunt.

Creating a beautiful harvest shot is not too hard to do, it just takes 5 minutes.

Taking nice harvest pictures is extremely important to me.

Who cares!!?? You're dead!!

I'm going to keep doing it anyway and leave them to my son. What he does with them is his business/problem, I'll be dead! [:-]

RE: Taking pictures of your deer.

I take a picture now and then, but I don't go to any special effort to to it. If I have a camera in the truck I'll take a couple if there's something different about the hunt or the buck. The more I hunt, thefewer pictures I take. The only ones I take are usually just to post on this site or to send to friends. I used to take a lot more pictures than I do now. Larger bucks I'll take a picture or saw the horns off and hang them on a nail in the garage or something. I don't measure anything. I don't mount anything anymore. I did a couple mounts early on in life but probably will never mount another. Most of my racks get hung in a tree in the yard for the squirrells to gnaw on. I have a few special ones hanging around or laying around the house, but not many. Doe pictures... never.

You should take a kill picture once in a while.[8D]

No - there are others -me included.
Pretty much agree with David.

Have the racks from my first bow and gun bucks, but will never mount anything either.

I enjoy deer hunting more then about anything, but my enjoyment is very much "in the moment" and of the anticipation.
No picture or mount will ever begin to recreate that feeling.

I agree...I keep all of my racks and I am done mounting stuff for the most part...except all of my bucks will be DIY euro mounts..I really like them better than a shoulder mount. Pics do it for me..especially with invent of digital cameras.

I guess I am in the minority. I probably should start taking more so I have some memories to look back on and stories to tell about. I used to take a lot when I first started but for some reason just don't anymore. I never carry a camera with me and I'm sure as heck not walking to my truck and then back to where the deer is just to take a picture of a doe I killed. When I get it back home the last thing on my mind really is taking pictures. I'm thinking more about getting it hung, getting out of my gear, getting a shower, something to eat, some fresh tenderloins, couple beers, going to sleep and where I'm hunting in the morning.

bigcountry I spend a lot of time hunting. I spend a lot of time shooting my bows, tuning them etc. I spend time every year staying in pretty decent shape. I spend a lot of time traveling to and from my hunting spots.

I try not to do things half assed - why in the world would I half ass photo's that capture some of the best memories a person can have?

I hate to tell ya, none of those pics you and your buddies took a few weeks ago were quality pictures.
Don't hate to tell me at all ........ if you can pick apart these the photo's that I took go for it. You'll be hard pressed to find me taking photo's with tongue's hanging out, blood everywhere, in the backs of a pickup, straddled etc etc etc. I didn't take all those photo's you know.

I have taken my share of horrible field photo's and I hate that I did.
