Jeff, how do you know you wouldnt LOVE to hear the roar of a rifle? hunting one with a pistol?? a big ole plume of black powder smoke and the fresh rotten egg smell of REAL black powder being burnt in a flintlock?

not picking on you...i just dont know anyone that dives head first into hunting like you did...most everyone i know grows up hunting...i just know FOR ME, that although i love bowhunting, probably more than any other form of deer hunting thus far, i MISSED the rifle opener last year because i tagged my buck...in PA its kinda something special...first light in the big woods of the mountains and hearing rifles firing all day...driving by the camps and rubbernecking to see what they got hanging..deer camp PERIOD...i missed it all...i know gun hunting will always be a part of ME. this year i took my buck at a range much farther than id EVER shoot with a bow...i put the crosshairs on his heart and litterally put a hole straight through it...challenging? uhhh maybe not so much as bowhunting...fun? thrilling? exciting? give me a rush? you bet! hearing the roar of MY rifle up the ravine and feeling the recoil is just what gives me that rush...sitting behind the scope and precisely aiming that perfect shot while slowlying squeezing the trigger...Rybo about got me talked into buying a pistol to deer hunt with....

youd be surprised but out of the....13 deer i killed (11 rifle, 1 flintlock, 1 bow kill) ALL except i think 3 were within 40yds...most between 20-30...its just how i love to hunt.

not picking on you...PT started this hijack, but it got me thinking about it...just curious as to HOW you know you wouldnt enjoy a different form of deer hunting...

not to mention still hunting, long range hunting, deer drives, etc etc....

(PS....yes, im the same guy that asks himself "how do you know you love HER and want to be with HER forever?".......i could be single for a very long time! )
Well said, Mauser ......I bet you would LOVE some of it, Jeff ...

LOL!! NC...that was a goodun!! just a slight hijack by PT and myself...

but like PT just followed up with, i can see GMMATs love and passion for the outdoors...he bought a longbow because he loved it...although bow hunting is PROBABLY my favorite form and weapon to deer hunt with, i wouldnt throw the others away. a late season flintlock drive...."nothin like the smell of slupher in the morning!" cutting your own roundball patches, making your own patch lube, casting your own balls or bullets etc etc....just now way i would ever give up my OTHER weapons and forms of deer hunting....heck, bowhunting from a stand can be down right BORING compared to an action packed deer drive! plus, it gets boring and lonesome perched 20ft up there...another reason i love drives...commrodity between the group...joking around, tellin stories, talking about the one that got away, talking of years past...for some, its the only time of year we get to see them and talk with them because they come home for Thanksgiving and the opening day of rifle season...

I LOVE HUNTING....PERIOD

hows that?? 4 words......back to the original post....sorry to hijack...just kinda...FIT here and sparked some thoughts of mine...not picking on Jeff....just anyone that has only bowhunted and hasnt tried anything else....

I never said I wouldn't. But for DEER? I don't need to kill one with a gun to know what I like. I've taken turkeys with a shotgun and with a bow. I know what I like there. I can intelligently decide for deer based on that.

As did I. I've been hunting longer than you've been alive.....just not DEER hunting.

I've hunted with a rimfire, a shotgun and yes.....I even sat in a stand with a 30-06, once. Would I have shot? Probably not.

I don't question why you guys love what you do. I'm not putting down any other methods of taking deer legally. Not even hinting at it.

Why Is It such a problem with everyone that some of us do not gun hunt? I don't either, my gun hunting career lasted 2 hours when I was 12 years old, didn't excite me even a tad. Big deal!! We all have our passions and what we enjoy.

Its not a problem, that some only bowhunt or whatever. Its just comical seeing people saying it over and over. Kinda like they need to be heard, or "please look at me".

I just get a kick at seein the insecurities, and need to be accepted by a bunch of posters.
