RE: Hunting the same spots.....

20 sets this year

never in the same stand area. I use the days hunt to learn something for the next days hunt.

RE: Hunting the same spots.....

If you hunt a stand in the right conditions...what is the difference.
How'd you get in and out? That could be a HUGE difference.

I'm not in anyway referring to me, but if a guy goes into his stand, hunts and leaves without spooking a deer, how did he pressure them?

See above. Now how much scent has this guy laid down in that one spot?

I get where you are going with this, and agree to an extent...but if no deer is spooked, how is it added pressure for that spot?
Deer don't need to be present when you are to get spooked or feel pressured.

I dont keep track of my sits, but I have only hunted 5 different setups this year. 0 deer spooked from me on stand by sight...or smell that I know of,
I'm not poking fun at you....but I'm glad you added that last part.

The general area is probably pressured more, but that would be the same if I used a climber and changed trees in the same general area.
I sometimes move 50-60yds between sits in a general area.....and if you do this I think you're WAY better off than the alternative (hunting the same set time and time again).

Human scent, Bumping deer walking to and from your stand and movement in the stand.

But do the guys who change a tree 60 yards down in the same woodlot not bump just as many deer on their walks in?
Human scent is going to spread in the area regardless of whether I change it up 100 yards down the line or not.
I already stated if no deer busted me by seeing me on stand, is it any different than a mobile setup?

Real questions, playing devils advocate to learn here.

I agree...for the most part. Switching things up CAN'T hurt you. I just fail to see how moving only 50-60 yards significantly increases your odds of not spooking a deer. Scent reaches same places, same deer being hunted in same area...if they didnt look up and peg you last time in your hang on, what will make them this time vs a climber 50 yards down?

RE: Hunting the same spots.....

I agree Tembry... I have 3 stands and 1 ground blind. They are all ladder stands so I don't have the ability to move them. I could but that is going to leave more scent than just letting them be. If you have rubber boots, scentlock, sprayed yourself down, and walk the same path into your stand everytime. Why would multiple trips to a stand be anydifferent than 1 trip. I don't like to hunt stands several days in a row but I will if I continue to have deer walking by. I have to say that if deer don't know your there when they walk through and you are sitting in a tree watching them, then they probably wont know you were there if you are no longer in your tree.

You are right they can bump and smell ya. But they don't pattern you when you jump stands.

RE: Hunting the same spots.....

I guess Im stating it wrong. I KNOW that it cant help my odds to hunt the same setup multiple times, my question is how does it hurt...Guys who hunt different parcels or huge chunks of land, are different...

but how would it help me to be "mobile" in a 40-80acre chunk ofland vs hunting out of the same 2-3 lockons spread throughout the parcel?
Same number of entry or exits 3 in my case, maybe 4 or 5 if mobile(only so many ways to switch this up),
same time in woods for scent to spook deer in area...
same everything but because I am in the same tree that to my knowledge a deer hasn't seen me in yet, it hurts my odds..but how?

Of course he can. That's not what I'm worried about, though.

The way I see it.....it's harder for a deer to avoid 70 setups. It's easy for them to avoid 5.

I think you're looking at the little picture. I'd rather spook a deer in one spot.....then move.....than have that deer pattern me in one spot....and that be the only spot I hunt.

but because I am in the same tree that to my knowledge a deer hasn't seen me in yet, it hurts my odds..but how?
You don't really think that him seeing you is even his FIRST line of knowing you were there.....do you?

RE: Hunting the same spots.....

1. How many times have you hunted, this season? I'm going to take a guess and say right around 30 sits (morning and evening sits combined).

2. How many different spots/trees have you hunted? Not nearly enough!!!!!! 8 different stands/tree's I've hunted out of. In my 130 acre's I hunt, 70 of that Is woods and swamp and the rest Is ag fields. I absolutely need more land to hunt on. Never have I hunted the same stands as many times as I have this year. A couple of my stands I've hunted as many as 6 times.
