RE: Bambi Vs venison
My wife made an excellent venison roast the other night and my 32 year old step daughter tried it and said it was delicious. As she was getting more my wife told her it was venison and she could not swallow the bite she had in her mouth. She said she just couldn' t do it because she thought of ' Bambi' . I ALWAYS tell people the meat I am cooking is venison or has wild game in it BEFORE they eat any. I find this saves a lot of hard feelings because no one likes to feel like they were tricked into eating something they didn' t want to. I also don' t want anyone wasting any of my game meats so if you don' t want any GOOD........more for me :) I don' t force any opinions or dishes on anyone. I simply tell them they are missing out on the most nutrtious, flavorfull and healthy meat available in the world and if they have EVER eaten at a fast food joint they should have no trouble at least trying my dish............at least with my dish you know what meat is in there. |

RE: Bambi Vs venison
I don' t think the movie has much of an influence on people. People who hunt know better, people who don' t already have preconcieved notions anyway.
My son of 7 accompanies me in the field and loves to hunt. He also likes the movie so I guess its like Lazy said, it' s all in how they were raised and what they know. |
RE: Bambi Vs venison
Atlasman, I couldn' t agree more. As I said, my wife made this roast and since she was serving it I didn' t say anything. I always tell guest when I am serving venison or other wild meat and I promised her that I would not serve her any without telling her. My wife was aware of that but elected to do it this way.:)[:' (][:' (]

RE: Bambi Vs venison
Whenever you put a face and a personality on an animal, you have people that turn away from it.[:@]

RE: Bambi Vs venison
my wife will occasionaly go down the emotional road and then I have to remind her that it' s just meat... " cows were alive you and they don' t bother you." and then a brief description about how some slaughter houses work and how hunters at least are (generaly) more human than that, usualy does the trick :)

I think what Plaid dad said makes the most sense out of this senseless notion. People won' t associate their food with lovely little critters. You won' t see pictures of young calves or lambs above the veal in the meat cooler at the store.
Some people are just finnicky. I couldn' t get my baby sister to eat worms when we was young and I sure tried. |
RE: Bambi Vs venison
I get a kick out of " free range" animals being more humane. It' s only a way for some to feel beter about the food they eat. I guess I' m more like the Wiley Coyote cartoon when he sees the Roadrunner...I see deer in the woods and in my eyes they have those white frilly things on their legs and all the lines of butchery are faintly visible and I start to salivate and my pupils turn into red throbbing hearts!:D[8D] Wile E. Coyote...Super Genius! |
