It's a sad thing when we get so wrapped up in horn dimensions that we feel necessary to appologize for shooting a deer(in Illinois) that most anyone around the country would die just to see on their hunting grounds. I'm sorry for your lowering of your own standards to make 75 percent of the bowhunting world seem unworthy. Give me a break. You wanted to shoot it but didn't want to post it? Who's ego are we working on here?

Nice deer.

Nice deer.
That was not the intent of my post. On my land, Ive got some bruisers. I have until Jan. to tag my last buck. My land is in a one buck county, so I usually will let most deer walk unless its a big guy. I do not have the advantage of shooting more than one buck a year, so I tend to be
choosy till the year closes. Not a pride thing. I have shot deer much smaller than this guy on the last day, just to put meat in the freezer. But since I had just seen a monster 12 point minutes before this guy, I kind of felt like I jumped the gun. I really thought the 12 point was going to pass Russ (Kanga) because it was headed right toward him. Since it appeared at the moment, this was going to be my last hunt of the year, i went ahead and shot him.But you are right, I did down play this buck because of his rack. He had a plenty big body. So you are absolutly right. I am rightfully accused of horn envy, of which I usually do not care much about.
