I hear ya turboZ-car. When I was talking to them I almost wanted to ask who shot it and ifhe was aiming for the head or if it was accidental. And had it been the former, I'd've really wanted to give him a piece of my mind. But then I thought, hmmm... 5 guys who possibly believe in head shots all of whom have loaded shotguns, and I, well I have a bow.
Nah... I'll just bite my tonguefor both the bb and myself.(no pun intended)

Does it make me less of a hunter that I've never shot any does anywhere but the head?

So to answer your question, nope not less in the skills department, just less in the human or should I say humane.

Well you might be right maybe these guys were taking a head shot. But to give them the benefit of the doubt there are a lot of things that could have happened to reasonably explain the poor shot. scopes/sights get knocked out of alignment, slug could have deflected on an unseen branch, maybe in the excitement someone might have jerked the trigger (as opposed to a squeezing it) pulled the slug off target. I don't prefer head or neck shots but given the right circumstances I think it can be an ethical shot, but I would be pretty particular about it (good rest, gun I shoot exceptionally well, stationary target, close range, etc.). Either way I'm glad to hear you could make a good shot and ease the little guy's passing. Not that it matters but who kept the deer?

Are you geniuses aware that it's PETA, not pita.
I know they are a pita though. [8D]
I don't advocate head shots with any weapon.

I know a good share of gun hunters around my area are shooting at deer 70 some yards away with slugs (shot guns) and not having a clue what there even shooting at. Half the time they don't even know If Its a buck or doe, pretty sad! I've got some pretty sad so called hunters around my area, been that way for all to long around here. When there shooting at them ranges with deer running anything Is possible where there going to hit them. It also seems some of these people think the head shot Is the almighty shot to be taking. I've told them my thoughts that a head shot Is a tough shot to make, small target. I hear the same old thing every time, "It's not that tough". I then usually ask how many shots did It take you to hit the deer then? You know that answer. Some people are there own worst enemy In there Idea's of shot placement bow or gun.
Intentional or not In your case Hoytail, who knows.

And Rob knows about this cause he tried to teach me how to tell, I cant pick out big deer... the last 3 tags i've filled, have been little little deer. more they jump up i put the crosshairs on their head and boom the 308 gives them lead poisoning. It dosent even come close to Bowhunting, I dont even like rifle hunting I HATE rifle hunting 100% via its no fun for me cause I always think about becoming another statistic and getting shot. Thats why I never track my deer. I dont know Lemme know what you think about that, cause thats 100% honest really.

Being the way that I am though, I felt sorry for those 5 guys standing there with no deer while I had 2, and almost offered them one.(they knew about the 5ptr I shot as well as per other thread) But then I was still thinking about whether they were head hunting which made me withdraw the about to be offer. Besides both these deer broke the arrows I shot them with so I was out $30. Not that that would've stopped me from giving them one of my deer had I not known about the head hunting possibility.

Well...for one I don't care what PETA thinks about anything, I think they are a bunch of uneducated domestic terriorist...
but...for me, I would never take a head shot on anything....
