Default Huck's NC visit....(updated - 11/23)

Took him to my favorite little morning spot....and we saw NADA! The turkey chatter was worth the price of admission, though.

This evening....I put him on the ridge where I first spotted my only mature buck of the season. Again....he saw nothing. I had THE buck of the season (same deer I spotted earlier.....near the end of Oct.) at 22-23yds....and I needed him to come 3-4 more stepd to offer a shot. I was at full draw for 30-40 seconds....and it just didn't work out. Quite an encounter, though.....and we'll be back at it in the morning.

Hopefully we'll have something interesting to post up.

Funny.....Will being from CO....and coming to our NC temps....the amount of discrepancy in the way we dressed for our morning hunt was drastically different to say the least. Think Michelin man v. spiderman.

22.7deg. when we walked to stand.

You just described my only shot opp, except mine was at 10yrds, and I only needed 2 more steps![&o]

LOL.....I guess the thing we ought to do is just pick the stnd I'm thinking of putting Will in.....and put me in it. I've been putting him the best stands....and he hasn't seen a deer, yet. 3 hunts....NO sightings.

I saw 2 small bucks this morning....but neither of us (will, obviously not) had a shot opportunity.

Today we're gonna try an afternoon spot I've never sat in. We'll see.

These NC deer are certainly not proving to be plentiful or easy to kill. We are most definitely HUNTING them.

Update...

Well...it's official...we DO have deer in NC. Will finally saw a NC buck and three NC does. I win't get into the "particulars"....but let's just say WIll and Rob/Pa now share a common distinction......

I'm sure he'll share his experience in his own words![8D]

5 hunts in NC. now....and we've seen a total of 8 deer (between us). 16 degrees this morning, here.....and we had a GREAT setup. Will was hunting a creek edge overlooking some good, worn trails (and my old food plot)....and I was set up on the opposite side about 150 yds away.

When Will came down he asked me how big the buck behind me was. "What buck".....lol? I never saw him.....and he had to be inside 25yds.

Tough going....but we're still having fun.
