Funniest thing seen or done in the woods this year?
What is the funniest thing you have seen or done in the woods this year....or during any facet of your hunt?
Yesterday morning it was cold as heck with the winds blowing 20+mph making me cold as anything. So at about 830am about 20,000 little black birds came flying in and landed on the tree I was hunting from and about 50 others. They were so loud I could not hear myself think. Talk about a poop storm. I waited about 1 minute and they did not leave. So I started laughing to myself and pulled a scarecrow...I slowly raised up while lightly growling with my hands in the air....the birds took off in a blaze of fury! hahahaha!  |

Saw a spike chasing a doe all over the place one morning. They came back and forth around my stand about 10 different times. One time he was tearing after her a zillion mph and smacked dead into a tree and flopped right on his back. It was only 30 yards from me. I really though he killed himself. He must have knocked himself out or something cause he wasn't looking to healthy for a few minutes. He finally got up, collected himself and walked off (no more chasing that day).[8D]
Half hour befor sunset one afternoon the woods were dead calm and I was ready for action. Heard something above my head and didn't bother looking just figuring it was another squirell. Next thing I know a racoon is running down MY tree. He brushed against the side of my face and over my shoulder. I screamed like a little school girl. |

I also forgot to mention that I set up in a tree well before dark a few weeks back. About 20 minutes after sun-up I hear something inside the tree clawing. I feel something close to my face and see a squirrel stick his head out of a hole not 6 inches from my face....I squirmed like a baby.

Funniest thing I did this year was on opening day. I had about 300 trail cam pics of this one pesky little fork horn that hung out by one of my stand sights. He was in there all day and night eating. So, on opening day he came in, ate, and then proceed to bed down 4 yards from my stand. Knowing he was content to hang out until he got hungry again and wanting to get out of the stand I balled up my jacket and threw it out of my stand at him.
Scared the bejeezus out of him, and that little sucker still hung around for 10 more minutes before vacating the area so I could leave.:D |

I saw a doe beat up a barn cat.
This cat came walking through woods and doe was out in front of mefeeding. The doe turned to see the cat and started walking towards it. Then when the cat got close the doe jumped towards the cat trying to stomp it with its hoves, this was a mean doe. That cat jumped a few feet in the air and took off for its life. That doe looked pretty happy with her self. |

I spit on a little buck's back this year. It was early season, I was on the phone with my hunting buddy when I seen him coming down the ridge line. The buck stopped under my stand and I told my buddy I had a little one directly under me,me buddy told me to spit on him, so I did. The buck actually mule kickedand spun around real quick to see what had happened. He never did figure out I was 25ft above him.

Early season i had 2 small fawns come in with momma and i was in a ground blind. momma walked away out site and the 2 little ones hung around and played .They got to about 8 yrds and thy noticed me move. well they where not sure what to do so they just stood there looking at me. I said in a low voice not to be to loud hey get out of here, leave hey get out of here. They didn't move a muscle.Finally i said in the same voice I'm going to tell your mom.Bang the where gone like they where shot out of a gun.It still makes me smile when i think about it.

I had just got into my stand, and was putting on my hat, gloves, facemask ect. I had my gloves in my lap digging through my backpack and dropped the gloves. I figured screw it, Im not climbing down after them. About an hour later I had to pee, so I stood up and proceeded to pee all over my gloves laying on the ground. It took me a minute to figure out why they were all soaking wet when I climbed down at the end of the day, but the smell doesnt lie.

Had a 4 pointer bed down at the base of my climbing sticks. After an hour I wanted to end the hunt so I dropped some twigs on him. After that didn't work, I started whispering to him. No results, so I started talking out loud to him. When that didn't work, I broke off a dead limb within reach. That didn't phase him, so I dropped the limb on him. That worked. I laughed all the way home.

I had been hunting since daylight, it was now probably 10:30-11:00. I hadn't seen anything, but a button buck 3 different times. This thing would go up the trail a little bit later come back down the trail. So when He got positioned right under My treestand. I said to Myself I'm gonna see if I can make a scent trail with walking! lol So I pulled out My doe in heat scent, and squirted about half of My 4 oz bottle all over His hind-end. Well it was't much later I seen a 6 point chaseing Him! lol I thought to Myself after I did that. If the wrong big buck comes along that porr little button buck is gonna have a bad day! lol

Happened last night actually. I was sitting in a makeshift blind and saw a buck chasing a doe about 150 yards out. Not knowing how big he was I hit made a buck tending a hot doe sequence and he made a BEE line to my blind, literally. He was three steps from my blind. Well he messes around for a bit before heading up to a food plot, 10 minutes later my little buddy comes barreling down the hill, and again comes within steps of the blind. I guess he thought he had missed the 'hot doe' the first time. He then proceeds to circle the blind once then top over the ridge I was sitting atop of. 5 minutes later he comes back full steam ahead again looking for that hot doe I guess. After another search around the blind, he made his way back to where he came from chasing the doe, 150 yards away. Well another buck comes up behind me from the ridge. The first buck slams the breaks and makes a hard U turn to come back to face off with the other buck. After the show down is over he circles down and back up the ridge once more before finally heading out to where he originally came from! Then the rest of the afternoon I see him dogging does about 150 yards out from where he came from. The little dude had some energy!
By the way- both bucks were 1.5 year old 4 points. However, the first buck, the one who made the incredible journey was an incredible yearling buck. Big forks and already out past his ears, he's going to be a nice one! |

Now that I give this topic some more thought, I think I have a good one. I'm a believer that deer pay no attention to human urine, so I'll pee out of my stand when the need arises. Well, I was huntingmy one stand pretty regularly and peeing out of it at least once every time I hunted it. I would aim for this real small tree that was just below my stand so I would make less noise than just pissing directly on the leaf covered ground.By the end of the week almost every single leaf on this tree was curled up, turning black (for whatever reason), and dropping off. I was back in that stand the other day to try some videoing, and every leafhas dropped off.:D:D The same nearby trees have leaves though. I thought this was amusing.
Oh, I thought I'd mention that I don't drink or do drugs, so it must be the amonia in the pee? I don't know.:D |

The other morning I woke up about 30 minutes late. In trying to make up for it I showered in my dead down wind, and went to grab my clothes which I hang outside. I wore my pajama pants and a tank top to where I hunt and change there. Inthe hurry I grabbed all of my clothes, got there and realized I forgot my socks and my pants. I laughed all the way home. Finally got in the woods and had the muzzleloader with me and forgot my percussion caps. I gave up until the afternoon. Another funny was walking through the woods and finding a man asleep up against a tree. Never woke up! He was breathing when I saw him, and snoring. |

I was setting one evening and along came three ratcoons feedingon acorns
right under my stand. After watching them for awile I decided to toss a bite size snicker bar down in front of thenearest one. It was funny when he snatched it up looked up at the other two coons like I hope they didn't notice and ran off with his prize. I laugh every time i think of that coon comming back later trying to find the right snicker bar tree to climb. |

This thing would go up the trail a little bit later come back down the trail. So when He got positioned right under My treestand. I said to Myself I'm gonna see if I can make a scent trail with walking! lol So I pulled out My doe in heat scent, and squirted about half of My 4 oz bottle all over His hind-end. Well it was't much later I seen a 6 point chaseing Him! lol I thought to Myself after I did that. If the wrong big buck comes along that porr little button buck is gonna have a bad day! lol As for mine- I got down to the bottom of my tree(which is still not the forest floor)and forgot to undo my safety harness then jumped or at least attempted to jump the final 2 feet to the ground. The harness did its job half way through the jump and then I went for a little swing landing almost on my head. |

Heres mine: This year I was sitting in my treestand and nothing was moving but the squirrels. I love watching them because they always do funny stuff. There were three squirrels in the same tree across from me. They fought up and down that tree off and on for about 10 minutes. Finally one of them, I guess, "lost" the fight and was sitting in between my tree and the tree they were fighting in. He then decides the come over to the base of my tree and begin climbing. It gets beside my head and I'm trying not to move cause I don't want to spook it. I can't take it anymore so I turn around to look at it and screeches and attempts to jump to another tree. Well, he doesn't make it and lands head first into the ground. I'm laughing my ass of and its just laying there. It finally got back up. The dumb thing went back to the tree they were fighting in beforehand.....  :D:D |

Tuesday morning was in my box blind because it was so windy... a rabbit came in and I tried to grab it... not a good Idea it kicked the **** out of me...
A rabbit is alot stronger than they look lol |

This past archery season I'm all set up in my stand and it's still dark. I hear something on the tree in front of me and in the light of the sky, I see what looks like a chipmunk in the branches. So I lean back against my tree and I'm just standing there watching him. All of a sudden I see it leap from the tree and "I think that's a flying squirrel, he's coming at me!!"
Thwap! He's now stuck on my thigh!!. So here is me, all 6' 210#, trying to slowly shake my leg and not rock my API climber out of the tree and he's not budging. So I reach down and try to swat and he jumps away. I spent the next few minutes trying to look around and see if he is on the seat, in my bag etc. Definitely an exciting morning. |

It's not something funny that I saw but rather something stupid that I did once: At this one piece of land that I use to hunt was a thick cable across the road. I had the key and would stop the car and lower the cable, then drive the car over it and then lock the cable behind me, keeping anyone else out. Well, I had done this pretty much all season, when I thought it would be a good idea to park at the cable and just walk back to where I was hunting.
Well, I park at the cable, get out, go over to the cable, unlock it, drop it, step over it, pick it back up, and lock it back! I took probably two steps and stopped, looked back at the cable and said to myself, "Dude, you're a friggin idiot"! [&:]I'm glad nobody was watching me that morning!:D |

:Dthats some good stuff guys :Done week ago i climbed my tree via climber. In the dark i pulled my bow up hung the quiver and loaded an arrow.When Day light came i happened to glance down at my bow in the holder, and thought huh, something dosent look right :eek:My bow was in the holder upside down [&:]Doh!!!! :Dfirst time in 30 years :D
