Default Pretty neat "Spike" encounter

I was on stand early, today....and the second deer I saw came in about 4:30. He was headed to a small pond I was set up against to get a drink.

I immediately noted the heavy beams. I figure he WAS an 8-pointer....but every single tine he "had" was broken off. He was a really cool looking buck.....and if he'd made it 10yds closer....I was gonna try ot take him. I would 've had him mounted, too. He has to be a scrappy fella.

Lots of people would've probably passed on him due to his tines missing. I thought it was the neatest thing. I really wish he'd presented a shot op. I'd love to have taken him.

Anybody see a similar buck?

No... but I did see my first Rut action this evening.I would have shot him too if he would of been about 500 yards closer.[8D]

One of my hunting buddies shot a true spike like you are talking about probably 15yrs ago (with a gun). He just saw beams out and around...got the scope on him and bam. A 14" wide, true spike. He had the frame of what could have been an 8pt easily, just nothing there! LOL

I told him to get it mounted, he didn't. I thought it was really cool.

This deer was no spike. He had junk at every spot where a tine used to be. He was so awesome. I wish I could have taken him.

With any luck, next time yougo up to the saddle, you'll find the buck that kicked his arse.

I hear ya.....that would have been cool for sure. The "true spike" my buddy got was cool too, rare to see one like that - probably about as rare as one with all the tines knocked off! [8D] How old do you think he was?

Matt, being honest, Ive seen deer every evening Ive hunted. I've seen deer almost every morning. Yet to see a wall hanger while on stand. and most have been out of range. But things are looking good.

Talk to the carrier I work for yesterday, he said go ahead and make my plans, and we should be good as long as something doesnt come up.

So, go ahead and plan on it?

What dates had we decided on again?

I'll start getting the funds together.
