RE: Never saw this before....XXX...
This reminds me of something my brother and our two sons all witnessed about 12 years ago in AZ.
We were mule deer hunting in north-central AZ and the elk rut was on big time. We got up early to go chase some bucks and heard several elk bugling from one location. When we moved to where we could see them we saw what could only be described as an "elk gang rape". There were 7 big bulls surrounding a single cow and her calf. Allbut one of the bullstook turns breeding the cow. One of the bulls was sideswiped or attacked whenever he attempted to move toward the cow. The cow tried to escape several times but each time she moved one or more of the bulls would lower his head gear and push her back to the middle. Two or three of the bulls bred her twice. We watched them for about 20 minutes before the cow and her calf finally escaped with three of the bulls still in hot pursuit. The one bull that didn't breed her was attacked when he tried to pursue the cow. We never could figure out why that one bull was on the outs with the other bulls. He was bigger than a couple of the other bulls and looked to be healthy. All of them were big bulls....one of them was a big 6x5 the rest were 6x6 and bigger.
