Story time.

I really wasn't planning on hunting Saturday evening. The wind was blowing really hard out of the west, which doesn't help any of my stands. My dad talked me into going, I ended up hunting some of the bottom ground simply to stay out of the frigid wind. I knew where I wanted to hunt, but I didn't have a stand in the area, so I set up along a trail hoping to catch some deer movement. Less than 15 minutes later, I saw a doe walking down an overgrown logging road. She wsa 30 yards away, slipping down the trail. Then she see's me. That doe was staring me down like I owed her money. She finally sees enough, snorts what seemed like 50 times and ran away. Hunting on the ground sucks.[>:]

About 5 minutes after the snort-athon, I see a deer walking down the same trail as where the doe was at. Is she coming back?? Nope, its a buck. I can't see his rack very well, I could just tell that he was big bodied. About that time, he catches the doe's scent trail and comes running AT ME FAST! I'm about to code out trying to hook the release on the string, draw and not get steamrolled!! He sees me draw, slows to a fast walk behind a tree at 8 YARDS, he takes one more step and I shot him behind the shoulder. He wheeled to run off, broke off my arrow ( another story about BH performance [>:]) and piled up w/in 75 yards. It all happened so fast I didn't get too worked up before the shot.....but WOW was I ever rattled after the shot.
Here he is, I've scored him but haven't added the sheet up yet. Heads at the taxidermist, the rest is at the butcher. I'm going to rest up this afternoon, I'm still spent.[8D]
