Kind off topic from Jeffs original post and this does apply different in every hunting situation.I 100% agree with HuntingEd about seeing a Doe being pursued by a buck, hunt that location like right now! I tell all my friends hunting our properties, you see a Doe go by with a buck in chase and they are out of range, get out of your stand and go sit somewhere you can get a shot because many times Ive watched bucks come down the same trail as that hot Doe just came down within seconds, minutes or even hours especially the first ones that come into estrus.
This is an EXCELLENT point. Last year I had a shooter with a doe just out of range, they were already locked up. No real chasing, he wouldn't leave her side though. After they passed, 5 more bucks within the next hour cam by and went NUTS when they hit where the doe was. I got down at the first lull but I went to try and circle around to guess where thedoe would head forthe evening, rather than sit where shewas hoping for another shooter to come by. As it turned out, I almost guessed correct, I was just a bit too far inside the field when they came by at dark.

For the record .....(and I have NO WAY of "knowing")....but I'd be VERY surprised if this doe was "hot". She let him get really close.....and his and her behavior didn't lead me to believe she was in estrous. I think it was just a case of a young buck (1.5yrs) not knowing what to do with his pent up desires.

If she was hot....she wasn't reeptive .....to him. Doesn't mean she wasn't....i understand...but it's awful early.

That would be my guess as well Jeff, I havent seen any serious chasing yet. I have seen some young bucks trying mount Doe's, and doing some harmless chasing. No worries, its going to be full throttle soon enough.

I agree with leaving the hot doe theory (if 100% sure), but who's to say really if she was or wasn't. It is pretty early still IMO. The young bucks are so wired right now I wouldn't be surprised if you don't see them trying to screw eachother.

EVER thought to yourself......"I wish that buck chasing that doe would get the hell out of the way so I could shoot the doe?"....lol
Yes. A hunting buddy and I were just discussing this the other day. He had just come to full draw on a big doe when a yearling buck chased her off.[:@] Don't get me wrong, I like seeing bucks. But this year it's getting to the point that I'm borderline annoyed when I see a yearling buck. I've seentwice as many yearling bucks as I have does. And of course, the yearling bucks are walking right under the tree while the doe(s) stay out of range.[&:]
