Default My 10-8-08 Hunt/Game Cam/Rage2Blade

Well guys/gals im back.
Just got home 2 hours ago.
---------------------------
Bow hunters excitement!:
------------------------
Wednesday Morning i popped into my G20 Ameristep ground blind and knocked a Rage 2 Blade. Crack of dawn i heard some turkey chipping and gobbling all around me. None of which came into the open. Nothing else was seen the morning.
Well, i took my game cam down after the morning hunt and carried it back to camp.
Looking on it i see, Deer,Turkey,Javalina & Feral hog. I noticed the deer was moving in evening.
Well i went to the stand again and not until 7:32pm i seen a doe come out.
As she got closer to me and it was starting to get to dark, I drew my bow.
Took my time and aim a little high since she was about 35 yards by my guess from the blind.
Well, i heard the arrow hit. I was excited! I have finally felt what i have seen on many bow hunting shows.

Goes South, Sinking of the gut
--------------------------------
I wait about 30 minutes before leaving the blind.
I move over to where i shot my deer. Looking for the arrow i find it in the ground. Not drenched in blood, just stained all the way down. Under the cock vane i notice a bunch of white hair.
No blood on the ground, but arrow has it all the way down it. It went right through.
And judging by the white hair it looked to be low .
Scouted the direction she ran, after about 25 feet i seen blood. Every 10 to 20 foot i seen some blood.
All the spots where no bigger then the ring around your peep sights. Some allot smaller.
My friend and i trailed this blood for 2 hours getting about 5 or 6 hundred yards.
I really wanted my first deer with a bow, but i definitely didnt want to wound one and it run off and die.
So now i will never know either way. I thought the shot was good, but i believe it was too low and i may have skinned the deer. White hair in the vanes leads me to this after 2 hours of walking.
This had me so upset wednesday night i didnt hunt this morning. I went to get my popup blind and seen a buck and a doe run off. I didnt feel bad for not hunting this morning. I figure i had already done enough.
My first is a run off deer .

Rage 2 Blade Freak Incendent? "Used on one deer??"
---------------------------------------------------
Ok i got home and took my bow case out and looked over my arrow i used and the Rage 2 Blade.
I washed it all off and it fell apart in my hand. Turns out, the roll pin holding the razors in fel right out and the blades dropped off. I out the pin back and it falls strait through.
My theory on this is the roll pin is so hard it wont bend, but when pressure was applied on both sides of it. Looks like it closed it completly and made it too loose to stay in.
Now has anyone had this happen to theirs?
Im having second thoughts on these things if it happens again after one deer?
Here is a picture of the blade after washing it off. You can see small nick in one blade, but the roll pin is not bent at all, just closed the gap making it too loose to stay.

Sucks man, did you smell your arrow when you found it? if it smelt like, well... crap, you probably gut shot her, which is the reason there was little blood and no blood on the arrow.

Nice pictures. Not sure what to tell you about the Rage b/h. could just be a faulty one.

I have used the rage blades for 3 years now and have never had an issue with them. The first year I used the same blade to harvest an 8 point, a hog, and 3 does.

From the pics it looks like you hunt in the Texas hill country. I hunt outside of Harper ( 23 miles from Kerrville ).

Good luck.

Hmmm, have not had this happen with fixed blades yet. "Maybe" just 1 faulty broadhead. I guess moving parts on a broadhead are just not for me. Hope that never happens on impact.[8D]

A rangefinder might help prevent misjudging distance. It sounds like you hit low and that doe will live.

Am I the only one wonder why he has a pin and not a grub screw holding his blades in? All the Rages I had used a grub screw that threaded into the ferrule to hold the blades in. If yours is a pin you most definitely got a defective broadhead unless they changed their design.

I had the same thing (sort of) happen with my rage 2 blade on Saturday morning. I shot a doe (through the rib cage), when I found my arrow the blades were missing in action. The blades were gone and so was that pin. In a way, it just made it easier to replace the blades[:-]

I actually wasn't going to use rages because I didn't like how they performed on a doe from last monday. But, I haven't had a chance to shoot my new muzzy's yet.
