My wife and I have gone through a similarsituation with her half brother. His mother was very neglectfull and was only keeping him for his SS benefits, food stamps and housing.
He was a good hearted kid, but ending up hanging around the wrong crowd and getting in trouble and not going to school. He has been with us for 6 years. It hasn't been easy, but my wife is going to Chicago this weekend to attend his graduation from basic training in the Navy and we couldnt be prouder.
