Who shoots an 'old' bow still?
I just had to ask. I see all these threads and other posts about someone who has an '07 and just got an'08, or '09.
Who still has an older bow? Am I the only one? I bought my hunting bow in 1994. It's a Darton Lightening. It was the fastest bow out for that year, shooting an arrow a blazing 235 fps. I just put a new string on it and it's still dropping them in there out to 30-yards. As much as I want me a new Diamond, I don't feel I need it.I have a PSE Mach 8 that's about 12 years old, and it feels like a new bow compared to the Darton. I guess I just want to know does everyone buy a new bow every couple years? |
RE: Who shoots an 'old' bow still?

RE: Who shoots an 'old' bow still?
I have an 01 and I feel like Im in the Stone Age. I LOVE IT...but I would NEVER get rid of it in the event, which is as likely as seeing a purple deer, Santa Clause gets me a new Hoyt.

RE: Who shoots an 'old' bow still?

RE: Who shoots an 'old' bow still?
I have a Jennings Buckmaster, I feel outdated, but still chucks arrows downrange flat and accurately. Cant complain. Had it forabout 10 years if I remember correctly. I have thought about what Im going to do when I will have to get a new bow, scarey with todays price tag on bows. [:o]

RE: Who shoots an 'old' bow still?
I bought my Mountaineer about 10 years ago, it was used then...Paid $150 for it...Still works for me...
Not too many bows out there for a finger shooter anyway...:D |
RE: Who shoots an 'old' bow still?
My 3-D rig is still an old 1996 Hoyt Defiant. I had it blazing them out at an unheard of 320 fps back then and it's still holding it's own against anything to date.
My back-up hunting rig is a 2000 Hoyt UltraTec which is currently my primary until my new DXT gets here later this week. |
RE: Who shoots an 'old' bow still?
MY buddy shoots a 20+ year old Darton, can't believe it but he loves it and still shoots good

RE: Who shoots an 'old' bow still?
If those are old, I wonder what my '65 Bear Kodiak Mag or my early 70's John Schulz longbow would be called. :D
|
RE: Who shoots an 'old' bow still?
I just retired a 1989 Hoyt Provantage for a Mission X3. We'll see if it lives up to the Hoyt when a deer shows up.

RE: Who shoots an 'old' bow still?
Hoyt Tenacity.............1996 I think

RE: Who shoots an 'old' bow still?
I have a Bear Cheyenne. It was my brothers that he gave to me when he bought a new diamond, and it was his dads before it was mine. (Half brothers). Anyway it was the most expensive (to me)christmas gift I have ever gotten cuz I had to set it up still. But I have had it for a while now too and it has huge drop off but where i hunt there is no such thing as a shot over 20 yards.

RE: Who shoots an 'old' bow still?
well I have only been hunting for 4 years now, and my first bow was a Buckmasters BTR bought from the local Walmart...I shot my first deer with it last year, it does not fit me though so today I bought a '08 Bear Showdown and am hopefully going to have it by this weekend to take out in the woods. For sure can not buy a new bow every year so I got what I hope will be a bow to last me through the years.

RE: Who shoots an 'old' bow still?

|
RE: Who shoots an 'old' bow still?
I am shooting a '01 PSE Nova. She shoots good, but I would love to upgrage. Saw a commercial on TV last night for a bow shooting 380 fsp, so hopefully I will be able to find a really good used bow maybe only 3-5 yrs old for a good price soon!

RE: Who shoots an 'old' bow still?
I have a Hoyt Heat Super Slam. Got it 14-15yrs ago. I just, and i mean JUST upgraded to carbon express Arrows, I was still shooting Easton 2213's, and a 125 grain tip. I am planning to upgrade the sights, and rest soon, and make the change to 100 grain heads.... It's fast enough for me, somewhere around 220fps, and I can shoot the same pin to 25yrds. other pin is 30-35, and my 3rd pin 40. If I was to upgrade to a new bow, personally I would get a Crossbow shooting 350+ Fps, but I don't see the need for a new bow. 220Fps or 300fps a deer will still jump your string at 30 yrds, so speed, is only really good for when you misjudge distances... |
RE: Who shoots an 'old' bow still?
Here is a little piggie I shot recently withmy 1978 herters. Iveused this bow since 1980.This was her last hunt. Im going to put her on the wall. I have recently retired her. I built a copy of this bow and beefed it up. This bow is 55lbs at28 inches. The bow I built, which is almost an exact copy ,with one except, I used yew under the glass instead of bamboo underglass. My copy is 65lbs @28"

RE: Who shoots an 'old' bow still?
I have got a PSE Fire Flite Elite, with graphite limbs, little slower, noisier, still dropping them at 30 yds. Thinking about upgrading though.Looking at buying a used hoyt 3-5 years old. I still don't need all the bells and whistles.

RE: Who shoots an 'old' bow still?
Proline riptide....maybe 10 years old not sure
Oneida maybe 15 - 20 years old. Yes.. I would like to get a new bow. Lugging around these heavy weights is not fun all the time. The new bow weights make me cry. Brother has one and I forget I'm holding an adult bow :) |

RE: Who shoots an 'old' bow still?
This is actually a decent thread. Seems to be a stereotype out there that every compound user relies solely on the latest, newest technology. Nice to dispel some of that. :Hats-Off
|
RE: Who shoots an 'old' bow still?
Still rockin it with my '01 High Country Carbon 4-runner
