Hey ryncam, I am the only testosterone in my house. I was talking about my little girl, I have 2 young daughters who didn't get in the picture, ages 5 and 10, and then my 1 year old beagle, LOL. Didn't think of it as the little girl dog. She is little. Mywhole family hunts. My 10 y/o has taken deer since age 8. I am going to start my 5 y/o this year with a 22-250 and she is already pumped about getting her first deer. She shoots a 22 out to 50 yards and can hit a 3 inch bulle eye so I told her she is ready for the deer.
Mark, easiest way that I have found to train my dog was to get you a bucket full of blood. Soak as many sponges or rags in the blood. I then froze them in pint zip locks. I use rubber boots and glove, tie the rope toa string and do long drags for my dog. I started out putting crunched up pieces of cookie at the first blood to get her salivary glands working. I always put a reward cookie or two at the end of the blood line where the rag is located. I started out in a clear open low cut pasture, and worked up to thick tall weeds. This deer was the first for her to trail thru woods.
Thanks to all who have taken the time to look and or read. This was a special day for me in two ways. I just wanted to share it with my huntingnet community.
