Default Game Calls or scents? When to use them!?

Hi fellow hunters! This is my second year hunting and i would like to know from your experiences what you think about using Calls and Scents. If possible answer these questions.

1)WHEN DO YOU START USING THEM?
2)WHAT DO YOU USE?
3)DO YOU USE DIFFERENT CALLS FOR THE PRE-RUT AND RUT?
4) HOW OFTEN DO YOU USE THE CALL?

Let me know if possible what you guys think and what strategy you use when going out in the fields right now. I would like to start using and trying out some calls for the first time without spooking the deer. Thank You!
