Dropped Off or Walk to stand??????

O.K. Heres my dilemma. One of my stands is in the middle of a section on a property line. There is an access road right down the center of the field. On 1 side of the access road, there is corn and on the other there is milo. My stand is on the south end of the corn. Now an evening hunt, I'm not so worried about, but a morning hunt is what I'm debating. Should I walk this road, which I'm guessing is a 1/4 mile, or should I have a buddy drop me off near my stand? I'm just wondering what would affect the deer more. Seeing a truck come and go or someone walking in. I guess it could influence an evening hunt also, if the noise would bother them. What's every think the best approach would be?

I can totally see why you're asking. One of my best spots is off of a long gravel road through the woods. To get there, morning or afternoon, its just begging to get busted on foot. Drive down it slowly, however and the deer will just stare at you and go back about your business. However, I had a buddy drive me down it once and drop me off, idling while I climbed up. Fifteen minutes after he left, deer everywhere around me. In farm country and urban environments, deer are used to trucks and combines and construction vehicles moving past them at close distances. They don't like it though when a person is walking toward them or out on foot.

I would always prefer to get dropped off if the opportunity was there. Two reasons: deer are not nearly as spooked by vehicles, regardless of what they are, plus the sweat factor, if you get a ride to your tree, no sweating. If there is a bad boy buggy involved...even better.

One of my buddies honestly bought an electric golf cart to get to the stands on his property in the morning more quietly. That might be the best of both worlds if you're willing to invest the $$$. And even better if you golf! "Say, that's the first Predator paint job I've seen on the course all year!"
