RE: BOWTECH USERS BEWARE!

I had the same thing happen to me a few years ago. A buddy of mine was into target shooting (not hunting) and needed cash. The bow was just over a year old and the price was right. When I went to see it he pulled out of the attic off the top of the heating duct. not thinking athing about it i held it and drew it with just fingers. it seemed like a great deal. we talked about the price again. and i drew it one more time and at about 3/4th draw it just exploded in my hands. after it was all said and done there were pieces of the limbs stuck in the drywall. I figured that it happened because of where he had stored the bow. I felt bad and gave him the money for the bow and told him to take to his bow shop and see if they would honor his warrenty. He did and they said that the bow had beendry fired and there would be no warrenty. never evev looked at a bt since.
That is pretty silly imo. Blaming the company because a bow blows up when the guy doesnt take care of it.

I'm glad your friend wasn't injured, that's the most important thing....As far as the whole Bowtech broken limbs deal goes, it is what it is. Todays bows are made lighter, thinner, etc...and have far more aggressive cams and stress on them as opposed to bows from years back (for the most part) and it doesn't surprise me there are a few more catastrophic failures now and then. While I'm sure there has to be one brand that has had the most, I'm betting you can find this type of failure in every brand of bow.

The bottom line is shoot what you feel comfortable with because after all it's your "bacon" that's on the line every time you draw. Personally, I've seen and read enough about Bowtech limbs breaking that I'll stick with my Mathews for now. I've owned and shot Bowtech products and think they are great bows but I lack confidence in them for now. We'll see what the future holds.....

Also remember if your arrow is just a little light, over time there are fibers and only one or two my break. But over 500 shots there could be alot of damage that is done and you wouldn't even know it. It's really hard to say.

Exactly. I love their bows, but alot of bows fail. Not just bowtech. I'm glad your buddy is ok. Really could have ended up different.
Ok, "Fanboy," then find me a few posts where someone's bow busted that WASN'T a BOWTECH???? I can HONESTLY say that I remember 3-4 Matthews stories on this and the other forums I get on, but I've probably seen in the 30's - 40's of BT's blowing up, and it's ALWAYS Limb Failures!!!! Sure there's going to be an "OCCASIONAL" FAILURE, but this seems MORE than "occasional." So why then wouldn't BT look for a more durable/proven limb design??? Wouldn't you still want that 101st Airborne if it cost an extra $75???? I like BT bows, at least the handful I've shot, but I'd not buy one unless I thought I was getting a good enough deal that it wouldn't kill me to have a set of Barnsdale limbs put on it. ELITE is the big up and comer if they can find a way to meet demands, because they are a BOWTECH with better limbs, which is why a LOT of old BT guys are now shooting ELITES. BT has been on the cutting edge for engineering n Archery, and has pushed others to do the same, but they have fallen back on ON THING!!!! And that "thing (the limbs)" is probably the MOST IMPORTANT, as far as safety goes, part of their design that is holding them back. If BT came out w/ LAMINATED LIMBS in 2010, their sales would INCREASE DRAMATICALLY, and yours truly might be taking a second look, as well.

A HOYT design is "supposed" to be tested to 1000 dryfires at 30" and 80#!!!!!! 500 shots is NOTHING, I shoot that much on a good weekend!!!!!!!

Dude good for hoyt. But I would like to see those 1000 dry fire's. It's one thing to claim it, but where is the proof that they did it?

but I've probably seen in the 30's - 40's of BT's blowing up,
Doug, BS! And I'd bet 90% of them are fraudulent especially over on AT, the others, maybe Generals and the issue was addressed. 40 picture threads. I call BS!

I own three Bowtechs, a 2002, a 2003, and a 2008. I have never had a problem with any of them. That all I need to say!

I know I can shoot my bow without worring about it blowing up. I take care of my bow. I make sure I'm shooting the right arrows. I tke care of my bow. I'm not saying that he didn't. But I have no problem shooting my bow.
