RE: Why do some of you even hunt?
Hey to the OP here in Or. I can only get one blacktail deer maybe two If I'm lucky and draw one. But here we can also hunt Elk, Black bear, Cougar, Turkey, Mule deer, Upland game birds, Waterfowl, and small animals, so yeah I can only take one but I can also get bigger animals too. Oh and once in a life draw tag for bighorn sheep.
There are also Antelope and rocky mt. Goat. So yeah its still a lot of funny. I would love to be in a state that lets you take more than one deer, but also happy with the other animals I can hunt. |
RE: Why do some of you even hunt?
many reasons..
1. The challenge.. 2. The scenery 3. Alone with God.. 4. The victory 5. Processing meat..fillinf the freezer. 6.Seeing the look on my kids and wife's face when I bring somerhing home..very rare but it does happen;) 7. The moment when it all hangs on that one shot.. 8.The call on the cell phone to let my wife know I got something 9. The sound of the animals before dark. a. whip poor wills b. coyotes c. deer and hogs walking by d.owls 10.The different birds I see when waiting in my stand |
RE: Why do some of you even hunt?
Why do I bother... because I've been doing it longer than you've lived. Besides that, who says we don't hunt other states. Besides that.. who says we have to follow the law. LOL[8D][8D]

RE: Why do some of you even hunt?
stupid question. I hunt b/c I love it. I bowhunt b/c I love more than any other form of hunting.
I can kill 2 does and 1 buck archery. any deer archery and any deer rifle. But I can hunt all the way through with my bow:D. Tags around here are based on numbers. Deer #'s are down and the tags are down too. Sounds simple to me. We in the north can have a hard winter........ deer are out there 365. Its alot harder on them. Here's another one for ya. Do you have moose, elk and bear available to you in your state/province? I do. And archery tags are easy to come by.[:-] |
RE: Why do some of you even hunt?
Well "to me" there is no thrill in any form of unlimited Doe tags. If I was tagged out on a buck I doubt seriously that I'd enter the woods to strictly pursue doe. I can shoot 1 buck in Ohio, if thats not enough I can also shoot 1 in PA..and then if that doesn't do it..I can go elsewhere as time and money permit.

RE: Why do some of you even hunt?
Its all about the passion of hunting. I i couldonly shoot one deer in my state i would still hunt. And there is also different game that you can hunt in the fall like squirl and rabbit

RE: Why do some of you even hunt?
To be in the outdoors and enjoy the peace and animals and mother nature.
|
RE: Why do some of you even hunt?
If my state were anything like that I would start hunting in another state. I mean, how can 1 deer only rule keep you engaged in a hobby? Literally, you guys might only hunt 1 day out of the year i.e. first day kill a buck or doe and then you're done. This would be a good question to ask.....no poll.....just have people respond, individually. "If you live in a one deer state....do you wish you got more tags" (if your resource would handle it)? To be in the outdoors and enjoy the peace and animals and mother nature. |
RE: Why do some of you even hunt?
It is what I do and love to do, It keeps me out of trouble, and my instincs pure. The kill is not the hunt, it is the Kill, and it is over quik, the hunt last's forever!

RE: Why do some of you even hunt?
I can only take one deer per year.
This inculdes both whitetail and mule deer. Also available to me in the fall are bear, cougar, turkey, and elk. I have plenty to hunt. While I would definitely enjoy a more liberal bag limit, I don't hunt to kill. As Kyle said, I hunt because its in my blood. I hunt to push myself to my limits. I hunt for the solitude. I hunt for the time it gives me with my father. I hunt to learn more about myself. I hunt because its my God given right. If it ever came to a point where I was going out simply because I wanted to kill something, that'd be the day I'd give it up. |
RE: Why do some of you even hunt?
I enjoy being outdoors also, but as a hunter I want the opportunity to get something. I think a lot of guys might be lying to some degree if they say it's not about getting something. We all want to get something or we wouldn't be out there. Oh well, if you're content with the constraints your state has placed on you who am I to argue? However, as a true hunter I'm glad I don't have to face that garbage.;) |
RE: Why do some of you even hunt?
This topic is always interesting......because most times people will defend what they have.....what they're used to.....what they know (even though, given the choice, most would like to see it changed, some). I think it's human nature.
What I do find is......I don't hear too many guys in one tag whitetail states saying they're completely happy about it. Most say they woud like to have more tags. Again.....if I'm in my tree with my bow......I like knowing IF I want to take a deer....I can.....ANY TIME I WANT TO. The beauty of this is, in reality.........we who hunt states with liberal bag limits "can" hunt like you guy sin one tag states do.....if we "choose" to. Can't say the same, for you....and that's not maliciously said. It's just a fact. Now would that (hunting like you're in a one tag state) change the outlook on your season? Change the way you hunt? Might you find that MORE enjoyable? All good questions. I'm just not ready to find out....lol;) I hope all my friends take deer here this year......and I take fewer than the last 2 years. Hunting is definitely NOT "just" about killing. But the kill is definitely a part of hunting. Much to be said to each's approach. I'd askthe multiple tag guys if they would hunt differently if they knew they only got one tag. I know I would. |
RE: Why do some of you even hunt?
ONE deer is better than nothing right?

If I were only allowed to take one deer, you can bet it would change the way I hunt, but you can also bet that I'd still be out there. It's not just who I am, it's what I am. |

RE: Why do some of you even hunt?
You know alot of you will find this very funny. I've never shot a deer ever. I've been bowhunting for 25 years, since I was 12. I would love to shoot one, but if I don't it's ok too. I really enjoy getting out in the woods and just sitting and listening. You get to get away from everything, kids wife, job. It's nice.
Now with that said it's not going to be a good year to be a deer. Ofcourse I've said that every year, but this year I really mean it. ![]() |

NC.....if you were closer we'd get that kill for you THIS year......;)

RE: Why do some of you even hunt?
I got 5 tags this year, probably wont fill them all. But thats ok, its not all about the kill. Actually its not about the kill at all.
Man i just love being out there!! |
RE: Why do some of you even hunt?
In Virginia you cant hunt on Sunday. It sucks but you learn to live with it. But you can shoot as many Does as you want and 3 bucks and the season for me starts in sept and ends in March. But its not always about the kill. I usually pass up a ton of deer just trying to get that one big boy anyways, so I really dont care. Sometimes you get him sometimes you dont. For me its about the love of hunting. Granted i do travel out westa lot to hunt too.

RE: Why do some of you even hunt?
ORIGINAL: robbcayman ORIGINAL: BowHuntingFool ORIGINAL: robbcayman After reading that dumb regulations threadI am confused as to why some of you even hunt. Some of you guys are limited to one deer. If that's not enough, some retarded states won't even let you hunt on a Sunday. [&:] If my state were anything like that I wouldstart hunting in another state. I mean, how can 1 deer only rulekeep you engaged in a hobby? Literally, you guys might only hunt 1 day out of the year i.e. first day kill a buck or doe and then you're done.[:'(] Not to brag, but inmy state (Oklahoma)we can bowhunt for105 days (No Sunday rule LMAO) take 2 bucks and 4 does. I guess my question is why do you even bother if you can only take one deer and have restricted days of the week? All of that money, time, gear etc.. for one deer.[&:]:)Not to mention, we have a 16 day gun season and a decent blackpowder season too. Because some of us get it!;) I compare it to fishing. As a fisherman I want the chance to at least get a bite versus just dangling my line in a pond with no fish. Part of it's being outdoors, but the other part is having ample chances to catch something too. However, as a true hunter I'm glad I don't have to face that garbage.;) Want to know what my goal is? One mature buck. One deeris all I can eat in a year. If shooting six deer makes you feel like more of a big man than other hunters who are content with shooting one then so be it. Why are you saying that people that only have one tag don't have an opportunity to get anything so they should take up hiking or something? Are you getting the numbers "0" and "1" confused? Some of us or more concerned about QUALITY not quanity. |
RE: Why do some of you even hunt?
we are limited here on deer tags.. 1 then pay big $ for the second, non-resident fees, still even if I could only get 1 which is the way it was for years when I was growing up, It wouldnt keep me from hunting. One buck is better than 0 .. plus here we have the luxury of killing an elk, bear, turkey, antelope too while we are deer huntin'
